Choco, Black, Brown?

What's the Difference between the Colors of Black, Choco and Brown Peppers and is there any real deference in there taste if there the same strain like TS or Bhut?  Now I wouldn't think a Choco Bhut would taste like a Choco T.S, but would a Black, choco or brown all taste different? I seen peppers like Black Naga, Choco Bhut and Brown TS, to me they look very close to the same darn color so just had to ask. LOL

A quick check on the web,,

i really think people just think chocolate sounds more appetizing than brown, as far as black.....i've never seen a truly black ripe pod before so.

chocolate and brown kinda the same color.
Blacks are darker,
for example, like chocolate habanero is not back, But Black Congo is Black since it is darker

Growing conditions (mainly the sun) affect color, texture, size, even taste

LOL I seen some Black Congo and yeah they are really Dark, it was the Black Naga that really got me thinking why was it Black and Not Choco Naga like the Bhuts and T.S. lol..  Was thinking maybe it was do to something Genetic but wasn't sure.    Thanks that did help. :)

there are black pods, just do a search (pimenta de neyde, black pearl, etc)

each different pheno / color could be from a different mutation / genetic parents so could taste much different.

Example Moruga Scorpion:
Everyone gets red moruga seeds.
Judy gets a mutation of brown pod and isolates and starts growing it out. She calls it chocolate.
Peter gets a mutation that seems more brown than judys so he calls it black, even though it is really brown.
Jack grows out peters and finds some of them are lighter brown, he now calls this caramel.

2 seasons later

Judy has found her brown has 2 different phenos a darker and lighter brown, she calls it chocolate and black.
Peter has found her brown pod has 3 different phenos a darker, lighter, and almost orangeish. He calls it black, brown, and peach.
Jack keeps growing out peter's strain but gets judy's as well. He has 5 different phenos of brown, he's not sure what the f**k to call anything anymore.

This example we are only tracking 1 thing the color... imagine all the other variables that could change: size, shape, texture, capasicum, etc. (and that's variables in the fruit, still more in the plant: production, size, leaf color, etc)

so the answer is no, they wont all taste the same or have the same heat. And the person who creates the strain can name it whatever they want, could start calling white pods white chololate etc.

Some Black varieties that are OPs from Hybrid crosses start off purple green then darken to very brown with purple showing then ripening to a very dark chocolate and deep purple, this is the darkest black that there is.  There are only a few varieties out there that is this kind of black, all the others are either Rusty Brown, Caramel Brown, Brown, Dark Brown (Chocolate) And the last as stated Dark Purple Brown (almost true black).
This is How I look at them, others may disagree, but I think I'm pretty close. As Judy stated weather conditions can make a difference on how a pod might look also.

can you explain why my yellow pods go orange here in southwest Colorado?  is it because of the hot days and cools nights, or the elevation?
