Cold country, small balcony, grow accordingly 2020

Hello and a warning: this is going to be boring and small grow located in finland, mainly for keeping record.

This is my 4th or 5th season and 2nd in the same appartment. I have a small windowed balcony facing so, that in the summer sun hits it from ~12 to late evening between 18-22 if I remember correctly.

Last summer I had 2x aji fantasy, 2x harold st bart as main plants, then amashito wild and moruglah in a more shady spot. Results were nice for aji fantasies, got around 2kg overall from them and maybe 500+g from harolds. This year I'm not going to waste space with  chinenses, the conditions just aren't there.

This years grow will be:
2x Challuaruro
2x Jalapeno orange spice
1x aji fantasy x harold st bart (if seeds viable, own cross)
1x spanish giant.

I have a tent for germinating and getting to summer, 120x60x180 sized, so 2'x4'x6'. Seeds will hit the rockwool next week, will put out pics then. My growlight is solux twin 2x55 tubes, 6400k and around 10 000 lumens.
Basicly plan is, rockwool -> coco coir with maybe perlite/vermiculite, final pots will be pots with water reservoir below, acts kinda like passive hydro with coco.

Plants looking really great, Risto! That is
a pretty large flower! Do they all have seven
petals? That Challauaruro is loaded with nice
pods!

Too bad spiders don't eat aphids. They are too
disgusting even for spiders
Thanks Paul! The hatred towards aphids is strong Jere, I hope I never get any, btw what is their job in nature or are they useless.

And yeh I think they all have 7 petals, but I have to check

Your cold winters probably help to keep the
aphids under control. we had a very mild
winter this year, so in the early Spring, the
aphid population took off. Usually, the really
cold spells in the winter do a lot to control all
kinds of pests. We really notice it when that
doesn't happen.

I hope you never have to experience the thrill
of aphids run amok!

You managed to get the carrot seeds
spread out nicely, Risto.

Those tiny buggers are sometimes hard
to sow without getting clumps of seedlings.

Are the tomatoes going to get enough sun
behind that fence?

Hope so, full sun from ~8am to ~3pm atm, a bit longer when summer progresses

Okay, that should be plenty. From the pic,
it looked to me like it was on the north side
of your fence!

Did not know that peas know that kind of tricks. Selftangling to support stick.

Been raining for two days but should get better tommorrow, all plants seem to be doing fine.

You should put a trellis or strings across or something for the peas to climb up. They will be easier to pick and produce more pods.
It has been raining here for 2 days and they say at least 2 more because of tropical storm Crisobal in the Gulf Of Mexico, 4 inces so far.

Thanks for that tip, will fix something up tommorrow!

Good luck with the storms, hopefully your plants dont drown

+1 SB.

Yeah, unless those are bush peas,
they will want to climb up something.

We did not have a winter this year. I mean we literally had 5 months of November.

Low peas don't generally need a trellis, but I always provided peas with a support whatever their size: this setup comes close.

We were first hit by Amanda, after that again by Cristobal, which actually is Amanda reincarnated. We received 700mm in five days.

First and biggest pod of spanish giant rotted, what could be the reason?
New growth and pods look fine.

That was the only pod that grew in tent thou, maybe getting it out to cold nights staggered growth/ripening and caused it to rot?

That's a shame. Did you open up the pod to
see what it was like inside? When my pods
do that, it's usually due to too much H2O.

Here's to better pods forthcoming!

Havent watered that much overall, but flood did hit it in tent. Perhaps it already started there
