As far as collections go, people collect all kinds of things.

I probably wouldn't mind looking at someone's hot sauce collection, because as others have said some of the labels are very appealing, being both humorous and visually creative.

But I've been a collector of other things in my life and the problem with collections is they take up space and sometimes time, depending upon the collection of course.

So I've decided to be quite careful about taking on any new collections, so for now, the hot sauces though I love 'em, mostly reside on the fridge shelf and are consumed.

seeing that old hot sauce in the bottles looks disgusting & the bottles would look better for showing if there was nothing in the bottles, then you can also say its a waste of money buying the hot sauce w/o eating it. but thats IMO.

I've been collecting since March and have accumulated:

Dave's Insanity Special Reserve 2009 (signed)
Blair's 3AM (signed)
Da Bomb - Beyond Insanity
Blair's Pure Death
Trinidad Habanero Sauce
Crazy Jerry's Brain Damage
Pleasure & Pain
Pain & Suffering
Ass Reaper
Firefoods Infinity
Mr Vikki's HHH Heaven Hot Habanero (Batch II jam).
Karimix Scotch Bonnet & Mango
Mr Vikki Smokin' Ranch Sauce
Cholula Chipotle
Tropical Sun Caribbean Hot Pepper Sauce
Global Bakery African Scotch Bonnet Hot Pepper Sauce
Mezzogiorno Crèma di Habanero Rosso
357 MadDog
Rico Picante Hot Sauce
Melinda's Scotch Bonnet Hot Sauce
Bubba Gump Hot Sauce
Louisiana Habanero Hot Sauce
Who Dare Burns Naga Chipotle
Busha Browns Habanero Hot Sauce
Tabasco Original
Dave's Temporary Insanity Sauce
De Boca En Boca Yellow Habanero Hot Sauce

All of these are open (apart from the 3AM obviously) and I do use them.

I'm not sure what to do when I finish them - do I keep the bottles or bin them? Maybe i should stop opening them and keep them?

Got some Heartbreaking Dawn's and Mongoose on the way - hopefully some Brain Strain too..... :D

Any obvious flaws/holes in this collection that anyone can see? Anyone take one look at the list and go - "I cant believe he doesnt have some of...?"

Any hints?

I do need to slow down with the buying though lol The wife is getting annoyed.

.....seriously, I'd be happy to help you. What do you like?

Cheers Paul,

I'm more of a flavour over heat kind of guy as I do eat the sauces (superhots aside) I buy and I do cook with them - I cook Mexican food a lot, chilli etc as well as curries and soups. My wife doesnt do hot food but i love it - cant get enough of it.

I like a thicker sauce I'd say, well into anything with a distinctive flavour - and I'm not big on most extract sauces as most i've tried have that chemically sort of extract taste that I do not enjoy as much as others. Classic example is 357 Maddog which is very hot but doesnt taste of much really. I'm not a wuss - I have some infinity sauce and Dave's Special Reserve and cook with both, but neither have an extract taste really.

My favourites are the Melinda's range, I also have a Rico Picante one that I'm extremely fond of. All time fave is Global Bakery African Yellow Hot Sauce. Handmade in a massive teardrop bottle here in London by a very nice lady who comes from West Africa - each batch is different. Dont have anything like it else in my collection, indeed, Ive not tried anything that looks, pours or tastes anything like it. I'd have it on toast to be fair. :)

As I'm a collector, I like labels as well. Big fan of the Brain Strain for that reason - cant wait to try it. Awesome label.

SO - thick, flavourful, nice texture, good but not unbearable (non-extract ideally) heat, good/distinctive label and packaging etc.

Any tips?

Hmmmmmmm....

As you will be eating the sauce and then keeping the bottle....

Some of my suggestions would be: (Second to all the amazing sauces our THP community have to offer....which I will not mention in fear of forgetting to mention one....but I'm sure they'll be by to sound off ;) )

Cajohn's
Danny Cash
Redrum
Zane & Zacks
Crazy Uncle Jester
Gibs Bottled Hell
El Yucateco (cheap but quite good!)

That ought to get you started....

Anyone else have some ideas for our mate?

Wait there i thought you just looked at the bottles?
What's this actual consumption that you refer to and do you have proof that you actually eat the contents?

:D
The contents of the bottle really dosent matter to me,because I won't open the sauce. I buy cause of rarity and collectability.you could put tar inside a bottle of blair's 6am and I would still buy it.IMO they wouldn't buy on what was inside.but for the time and effort the creator put in to make his or her piece a work of art.I do eat hot sauce to,I have few super hots in the fridge.but that's just me I guess :)

I have some infinity sauce from Firefoods. They say it's the world hottest and in the Guinness records. No way.
It's made from habanero's vinegar and lime. That's top end warm at best.
