cone9 2017 Glog: seeds, meet media; media, meet moisture; moisture, meet seeds

After a lazy January I finally got under way today.  I'll deal with some pics once there is something to see other than nothing to see.

I wanted to cut back on the number of varieties this year.  Twenty-five still looks like a lot to me but it's ten less than I started with last year.
But, with the multiples I may still be looking at more plants than last year.  Another year of pots all over the yard!
 
I grew Urfa Biber a couple seasons back and really like it pickled.  I may add it to the list (if I can find my seed) and/or Aleppo.
 
I can also hear Pimenta de Neyda whining from the seed box for attention.  I know I had one plant in my grow room last year but when it was time to plant I didn't.  I repeatedly looked over the plants outside, then went back to the basement to check, then looked over them all a couple more times. I never figured out what happened.  Me being delusional, I guess

Good luck Dave. That's a nice cutback list.

I said, I was going to cut back last year. Ended up with 65 and counting different species. Plant the Pimenta de Neyda. What's the worst that could happen. LOL

Here's to 2017.

We are disappointed we will miss Mustang Week.  I understand they moved it to the first week of Sept.  I've been searching out new places to eat.  Sit on the beach, pretend to read(watch bikinis), eat too much, forget about work, drink(but not too much) - how's it get any better?

Bump Bump.... Need some photos of how those peppers came out. Especially the ones you sent me to get an idea of how they were and how they might come out for me. Tepin x Lemon drop F5, Cream Fatalii, RositaRed, Sugar Rush Orange... Thank you btw for seeding me the seeds.
 
I hope you enjoy them, James. I've grown the TxLD and CF for years and plan to continue with them each year.  First year for the Rosita Red and Sugar Rush Orange but I plan to grow both next year.  None of these are "burners" but all have great taste and what heat there is, is a pleasant burn (CF have no heat - or very, very little in some).

These were supposed to be White Bhut Jolokia and Peach Bhuts from a couple different saved seed sources, but they both grew red.
 
One group of pods is from seed I saved from a white colored Bhut pepper I got from inolan22.  It had an amazingly clean flavor to ti. 
Last year I grew a plant from this seed that produced delicious peach colored Bhut type peppers.  This year the same seed grew these red pods.
 
The other group from this years grow  came from seed I saved from my peach colored pods from last year.  Instead of getting peach colored peppers I got red.
 
I was really hoping for the white and peach colors, but got delicious reds instead.  It does illustrate what wide variation can occur with open pollination.

So, the season has come to an end.  All my plants have been frozen!   
 
 
 
Ahhhh....but wait!  There is still ONE living plant left...biding it's time in my dining room...

...and this is the only pod this plant set.  There were lots of blossoms but only one fruit.  Two season back I had one of these same plants and got two peppers by moving the plant in and out of my garage as the weather allowed until the peppers ripened.  I'm looking forward to eating this beautiful Manzano in a couple days.  I need to uncover the secret to more than a couplet of peppers per plant!  I plan to overwinter this one and see what that brings next year.
 
I have a few from seeds Dale sent me last summer. The Aji Oro and Mini Red Rocoto have given me both spring and fall pods. Just a few :shh:
 
Not Aji Oro (if fact, I was not familiar with that one.   I may give it a try - sounds good) 
 
Mine is just a yellow Manzano.  I forget where I originally got it.  Such good peppers but I have not had much yield from these
 
I think I'll look to get some more pube seed and try several new varieties next year.   Hopefully I'll find some tasty ones that produce well for me.
