damping off...are some peppers more susceptible. ?

Any noticeable difference in development between knobby here and the others?

Nope there is no noticeable difference with old knobby except it grosses my wife out.

For damping off I use ground cinnamon  sprinkled on the soil , it really works!  a lot of tropical plants  have an anti -insect and anti fungial properties  [Why spices were so popular before the advent of refridgeration ] .. also using too big a pot or upsizing to a bigger pot too soon  as mentioned above, bottom watering and keeping the soil loose at the surface to aid in evaporation
