Deep vs wide pots

Has anyone had experience with using two pots the same size just one may be wider vs deeper. Which pepper performed better?

I don't have any extensive experience, but it's my understanding that plants tend to fill them out equally well. Tall pots are more forgiving to overwatering than wide pots because the waterlogged soil level will be lower and the proportion of affected roots will be less. Wide pots are obviously more stable, but take up more space as well.
 
Assuming you water an appropriate amount, you can probably get what ever you think looks best (or is cheapest)

With no evidence I would say a deeper pot would outperform a wide pot as pepper plants like deep roots.

I've had rocotos side by side, one in a 7gal deep nursery pot and one in a 7gal wide nursery pot.
 
The wide performed and yielded quite a bit better.

Why is it better? more fruits, larger (higher/wider) plant?
 
I am as many are beliver that chiliplants want deep roots, the deeper the roots the bigger (higher) the plant.

While I've never done a "side X side", when comparing tall to wide with equal volume you must take the Perched Water Table into consideration.

The reason why wider is better is because the most active (nutrient uptaking) roots in the structure are within the top 6" of soil. Hence wider pot = bigger spread of the most active roots = bigger better yielding plant.
 
I knew this before I had two rocoto's side by side in the different shaped 7 gallon pots.
 
I was just out of wide ones, so had to resort to a shitty deep one for the last plant.
 
Trust me, its a marked and noticeable difference.
