Dennish 2015 Fatalii Meltdown

This year my growlist is dominated by Fatalii and Fatalii X varieties, I thought it would be worth growing as many as I could get my hands on as a comparison.

I’m also growing four different types of Big Jals as we are having a biggest pod contest over on the Chillies Galore forum in the UK, so hoping for some monster pods!

I’ve got an overwintered Trinidad Scorpion Yellow CARDI, plant entering his 4th season and looks to be in for another good one, just taking off…

Also a smattering of other plants of interest, including quite a few baccas which I found particularly productive and useful last season.

New seedlings doing well so far, just about outgrowing the limited space I have under a small T5 set-up and will be potted on and live on my south facing windowsill until May and the weather warms up here in the UK.

Wow!!! That plant looks sooo healthy.... very clean looking bonsai...  You must post it to the "show me your chile with the fattest trunk" thread... http://thehotpepper.com/topic/42085-show-me-your-chile-plant-with-the-fattest-trunk/?hl=+fattest++trunk

All your plants look nice but that 4 year old TSY CARDI is awesome. What do you keep it in during the summer months? I'm thinking it's gotta be in a pretty good sized pot to gain a trunk like that.

That is one beautiful over winter Trinidad Scorpion Yellow CARDI & man that's a thick trunk!
Thanks guys, will try and post some pics in the fat trunk thread too!   As I said this plant is 4 years old and a bit pampered as it's my only surviving overwinter this year...  It is currently in a deep 6l pot, in summer it will be in a pot of about twice the size.  It is in a homemade wick fed set-up.  I think the trunk looks really cool as all of the new growth starts from the top of the Y section, as over the years I've always stripped back any lower branches which develop.   I cut back very hard root and branch each year, seems to work well.

Here it is just as new growth starting in January following hard cutback October/November...

I just love how the new growth erupts from the gnarled, woody trunks on the older plants...

Been doing some potting up over the last few days, boy did they need it, some really quite pot bound already!

20 plants in in total now in 5" pots... the majority of my chinenses and baccas.

I'm including some pics of each plant in smaller groups of as a reference point on potting up to penultimate 5" pots...

All looking good with this first batch, Fatalii White has some leaf curl I'm keeping an eye on... Aji Oro Rocoto also looking bit sad/droopy not sure if this habit is normal for pubescens?

It will be natural light only from here on in for this lot.

Just noticed Fatalii Chocolate is filling out very nicely couldn't resist a solo shot!

Roll on spring!

Nice lookin plants...when were they started?

Also, were you just celebrating something, or are the flag thingys a permanent fixture?

Thanks for the comments, plants started throughout January.

The flag thingys are bunting by the kids playhouse and pretty much a permanent fixture.

Well things really starting to take off, just over week since potting on and the plants seem to loving the Terra Canna potting mix!  One thing I have observed is a total lack of any gnats this year using this soil mix, so already justifies the extra expense for the indoor stage on this point alone.

Slightly concerned that they will become pot bound and start to stunt growth, as realistically I won’t be moving them outside to greenhouse and final pots for at least another 6 weeks or so.  May have to look into greenhouse heating options to buy me a few weeks grace.  Ideally I’d like everything potted up and in the GH by Easter, which is risking it in terms of a late frost or cold snap here in East Yorkshire.

Aji White Fantasy is turning out to be a really interesting plant, seeds originating from semillas.de.  This is a natural mutation of the Fatalii.net Aji Fantasy which is yellow.  Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out.  The leaves are extremely large for a c.baccatum and the plant is growing really well, nice think main stem and vigorous.

The behemoth that is Peach Fatalii, again quite unusual elongated leaf shape for c.chinense, looks destined to become a monster.

Black Fatalii coming along very nicely.

Finally, Primotalii continues to hint at good things to come, filling out nicely!

Happy growing everyone, hope the sun is shining where you are!  :)

Very nice grow. Beautiful plants. I love the Fatalii and their crosses. I wish I would of had the means to start some. All I have is the Jigsaw this year. I have taken up sauce making, so I'm making my list for next year toward sauces. Fatalii is on the list. I'm dying to see a update.

Hope all is well and thanks for sharing.

Hi All,

My season is winding-up now as temps dip to 5c at night and light levels are very poor here in the UK...

It's been a good season, with some nice harvests and good results generally.  Here is my latest harvest...

Also, something unexpected which I am quite excited about... my Fatalii Peach turned out to be an F1 cross and produced a really unique /interesting shape and super hot pod.

Here you can see the bulbous tops, tapered blossom end and pimply, gnarly texture.  They ripen bottom-up too which looks great too.  I've never seen anything like this in terms of pod shape.

I sort of abused the plant, which wasn't really that productive as a result and am hoping that the seed I harvested produce a similar pod shape next season, along with a better pod return.

I'm dubbing it 'Death Cap Peach' and we'll see what the F2 brings...

Here you can see the pod glowing that amber colour of capsicum oil.  I tried a small piece of pod, sweet lord... definitely in the super hot bracket.

Here is the biggest pod I'm willing to fully ripen so I can harvest the seed...

More highlights...

Aji Melocotón, a great baccatum developed by pepperlover, fruity, aromatic and sweet... Delicious.  Similar heat to a lemon drop I'd say making it a very useful pepper indeed!  Family stir fries are about to get more interesting...

Highly recommended.

glad u liked the dutch grow mix- i exclusively use those(canna/plagran/biobizz) soil mixes for exactly the reason u mentioned that they dont have bugs in them- trust me root aphids cost more to deal with than the extra cost of the hydro store soils, plus they usually are amended with perlite and peat etc so its a nice mix for plants

well done here
