I get an early jump, but also end sooner. 'Yall will be posting all these great pics and I'll be done mid June. Because of the heat we have a really short season, actually 2, but that turns into a 12 month grow if we go that route.

We first hit Tejas in Houston, we now live 4.5 hours West and love it here. We're on the fringe of desert country, so no roaches or Nutrea's

I see snakes all the time but rarely see a Rattler. Rodent control!

I take a 5 gallon bucket filled to within 3"s of the top, add 3 cups of compost, one scoop of worm castings and a few tablespoons of horticultural molasses. Plunk the fish tank aerator in and wait for the foam. Once it foams the good stuff has multiplied enough to apply it.

Orange Jalapeno, has a really tall growth habit. First pods setting. Get out the magnifying glass...

We're growing bell peppers from seeds we saved from store bought peppers. Mainly we buy the yellow and orange, and sometimes the red. Don't know which is what or how they will do. But they will eat

A soon to be jungle. This year I plan on trimming the maters. Normally they grow out of the cages and hit the ground, all that energy is wasted as the later fruit never does anything due to the heat. At that point they give up.
One thing I'm really pleased about is the peppers are keeping pace with the maters this year. First time since I added the heavy soil.

Pobs are getting there

I have 2 Big Jim's, I hope they have some heat!

Anaheim peppers, I have 2 of these. They say, this variety is where the Hatch peppers are derived from. A Big Jim is a Hatch.

First pods on the Aji Amarillo, what a great pepper. I have many milder peppers this season; LB has been using them like crazy, I say grow what you eat. I finally got her into this :party:

Big Black Mama's, it's got lots of flowers on it.

Paul's PDN X Bonda White F6 via Tristen. This plant is going to be a beast. No pods yet, but flowers are open.

Bhuter's 7 pot Cinder Caramel. Where is he this year?

Holy makerel...it's snowing here and you've got two foot plants in the ground. I had to check the calendar after seeing your progress. Lol. But it does suck that you have to basically stop growing right in the middle of summer because of the heat. Your plants look terrific!! Pods starting...and your weather...I'll take some of that. Very nice looking Cinder plant. You'll know before me how they might look. Lol. Let us know if LB eats a Brain Reaper. Lol. Nice looking BBM's, too. I'm way behind. Just started seeds March 6, so my plants are tiny. I'll try to update my grow list today. Great stuff, my friend!

We intend to eat as many as we can, put some up, and share the rest. Most of the grow is for LB; I'm really pleased she's using the peppers now

A late cold front blowing in tonight, they're talking 40° Sunday morning. We moved all the container plants away from the wind and the garden has the fence. Still, this is not a good thing!

Ool... keeping our fingers crossed for you tonight Scott. Was that 40 degree figure the overnight low temp? If so it probably won't kill the plants, but you'll lose the blossoms and maybe some of the leaves. You may end up spraying them with water if it gets cold enough...

Yes, Sunday morning would be the low just before the sun rises. Hopefully we won't see that low. If it wants to go that low I'll kick the wobblers on; and that will throw some much warmer water on them. Really not worried about a frost as the dew point should be really low.

We shall see....

You could buy some bedsheets at the thrift store or something and cover them up. Or some dollar store painters plastic or something. Idk just my 2 cents, this weather is fucked right now. It looked like it was about to storm last, came inside instead of doing yard work. Took an accidental nap and when I woke up it never even rained. Maybe I will get something done today

Hi Andy,

The garden is just too big. 40x40 is fenced for wind etc. with reclaimed 17 year old decking material. I have over 100 plants going int e 40x40...The total area is 48x67 when I include the area where the Garlic, Onions, Asparagus, and Potatoes are.

We're on the North side of a ridge, 200' above the town of Devine. When a front from the North hits we get 30mph plus winds that will shred/burn the leaves of the peppers and maters. That's why I have the 6 foot high wooden fence on the North and East sides where the winds normally prevail. One thing about the 200' higher elevation is in most cases it stays a bit warmer here, sometimes 10°, when the cold comes in. It really depends on the front. The 4 day fronts in the winter, we see the same temps as in town. The shorter lived fronts are where we usually get a break.

Quite often when I leave for work @ 5:30AM, and the truck, sitting on the driveway all night matches the instrument thermometer readings with in 1° (I say instrument, because it's a $300 boiler unit (gifted

)), I get down into the town and see the temps 8-10° cooler.

I'm hoping for that in the morning! If I see things going bad in the morning, I'll turn the wobblers on

We had 44° this morning for about an hour; a bit colder than I would like to see. <dreaming>What would be sweet, would be if the 95° plus hit in mid July </dreaming>.
