DF Kratky Experiment Glog

Thought it best to start a separate thread for this.

Kratky, what is it..

What got me going is this guys channel, funny guy and fun to watch.

So here is my attempt. I mixed up some water with nuits by Future harvest three bottle mix. Transplanted my Aje lemon and then Oregano cutting into some rockwool. You dont add water you just let it go till its low then fill partially, the roots need oxygen so you dont top up.

Progress..
Look very good and they grew about 8mm a day. The Oregano cutting has worked well, new shoots coming up, did two and the other did not take so im guessing the cutting base stem was not good.
Gonna start some seeds and see how it goes from scratch.

This will be fun to follow.
I also started some Kratky peppers this year. I started seedlings in coco peat / perlite mix and then switched a few over to Kratky. The growth has been noticeably faster in 1 week.
Good luck for the experiment

From what I have read, you way want to cover the glass (tinfoil / black paint / etc) to stop light getting in and allowing algae to grow on the roots

What are you growing the pitcher plant in, the one in the background of some of the pics?  Is that in Kratky too?

From what I read if theirs sunlight then yes algae will grow, in grow lights its not an issue, will see.
Thanks!

In my experience, algae grows just fine under artificial lights. Now I cover any transparent Kratky containers with tinfoil for that reason.

No, its an old fashion chamber pot looking bowl , just water and aquarium rocks.

Ok Thanks, will watch out and make a sleave for them.

This is of great interest to me! Every year I try to over-winter herbs like rosemary, sage & oregano and every year I end up buying new plants.

not yet lol, haven't had the time to make any, on my list :)
One nice thing is that its almost a month and dont have to worry about watering.
