Diatomaceous earth application rates

The lady bugs topside is hard and tough, the underside is soft... Seems to me also that since it just makes them dehydrate, even if it flies away, it might die later. I read where it takes 2 hours for a little ant to die, whereas a ladybug is a lot bigger and will probably take a proportionally longer time to die.
 
I applied DE on Monday afternoon. I didn't see a single ant on a stem yesterday or today. I'm watering the garden for about 3 hours to make sure the DE is lady bug safe, as well as replenish some of the damage from 2 days at 110 degrees. I'll release them at last light...about 20 minutes after sunset...I hope they stick around for the buffet!
