Doesn't much look like a mushroom red chili...

The seeds were marked as mushroom red chilies, but I don't think so... They were received in a trade some years back.

So any thoughts? Most pods are 2-2.5 in in length (not including stalk). Colour progression is a conventional green to red. I haven't tried them as yet to see how hot.

Nice looking plant.

Looking at the calyx on several of those, my first thought would be: That's a constricted calyx, therefor, probably a chinense.

But my identification skills are still very rudimentary. Willard3 has much more experience at identifying peppers.

Today I picked all the chilies that were ready, approx. 20 with the long ones beings just over 2.5" long.

I sampled one of the smaller ones... It was packing enough heat to make me think 50,000-100,000 SHU (I'm no expert though. I do have some red habaneros almost ripe and will have to do a comparison).

These Mushrooms have cross pollinated, I've had the yellow mushroom look similar to this crossed with Jalapeno.

Interesting... If they're a cross, then unlikely to be ever known what exactly they are. But I plan on saving some seeds to see how true the strain runs... Who knows?
