Dragon49's 2019 Grow Log

I started to sow a month ago and finally have something to show for it.  Here is the story before I get to the pictures:

Back in 2014, I got to enjoy the exquisite flavor and perfect heat of a Pimenta de Neyde x Bhut Jolokia - F6 Open Pollinated. I saved some seeds and grew it out the following year.  I only grew one plant, but it grew true and produced 220 pods in a 5 gallon bucket.  I had some pods tested and they came in at 158,400 SHU.   Excellent heat, but far from deadly and a perfect compliment to the sweetness.  I saved those seeds, but took a four-year break from growing from seeds.  The cool thing about that plant is that it grew literally right next to a Yellow 7 Pot and I'm welcoming a cross.  I labeled seeds from different pods with different batch numbers, so I can keep track of what grows true and what crosses.

I neither have a lot of room to grow, nor resources to isolate, so I'm only growing one plant this year.  Worried about the viability of my four-old seeds (stored well, except for climate control) I initially tried to sprout 14 - 9 in soil and 5 with the wet paper towel method.  After nearly three weeks - almost nothing!  Some tails popped up, but I planted them prematurely and the baby roots shriveled up and died.  I took some forum advice and soaked these and some other seeds in a (1/9) hydrogen peroxide to water solution for twenty-four hours, before returning them to a wet paper towel.  I checked nine days later and only one had sprouted, but it was a big, healthy root:

I got excited this morning when I saw evidence of phototropism and knew the transplant took:

When I came home from work, I found this had finally popped out after sitting in soil for along time:

I'm giving this one away, but will post pics while it remains in my possession.

Thanks for the update Paul.

My plant is indeed alive. This morning, I angled it away from the sun and it exhibited signs of phototropism by moving toward the light source. It is however noticeably weak, as a healthy plant would have bent more and would have done so in a shorter period of time.  I still don't think there's much chance of the plant developing pods, but it's not dead yet.

What is the chance of being able to put it in a 2-3
gallon pot and keeping it going indoors in the Fall?

Too much of a pain to have to first transport it back home and then wouldn't want to be responsible to care for it for the next seven months or so.  As much as it will pain me, at some point this Summer, I may make an executive decision to pull the plug.

Except for some unexpected light misting early this A.M., the plant in its new home have avoided rain.  I just took it indoors as it will probably rain tonight.

It looks infinitesimally better today:

I think you are right.
It actually does look a bit better!

I think just a tiny bit better.  Anything more than looking a drop better I blame on a better focused and more zoomed in picture than yesterday.

I appreciate the encouragement and thoughts though!

Are those two little green dots tiny leaf tips?

OMG!  Perhaps there is a dim ray of hope.  I enlarged the picture and I think you may be right.  Suspect leaves are in the middle.

Is it clear these are a new set of leaves?

Either way, awfully slow progress for something that sprouted on April 26th.

The plant isn’t dead yet, but still isn’t growing at all.  At this point, I think she has some psychological issues that’s stunting her growth.  For the last two weeks, the plant has had nutrient rich soil with good drainage and lots of sun, but no progress at all.  WTF!!

I figure it's worth growing even if it never delivers any ripe pods. USPS will do a good job of that in a pinch.
I'll surely be purchasing some pods this season. Everybody is having hard times due to the weather.  I just got an email newsletter from the GhostPepper Store, informing me that this year's production will only be 40% of normal output.

Sunlight, rain, and well water are free, so the fruitless (pun not intended, but it fits!) venture isn't costing me anything.  I'll keep the plant around for a while.

The runt sprouted 68 days ago and there aren't more than 4 leaves.  I've never seen anything like that.
