Dramatic upward leaf curl

This bell has done this since i put it out. Probably 2-3 months. None of the other varieties share the same issue and they are packed kinda close. Also I figure if it were mites? wouldn't they have spread quite quickly to all the other plants seeing as its been months? Soil should be similar too. Same variety is around a foot away.

These bell seeds were really just a quick purchase from the big box stores. Just to play with on my first season. They were a single packet labeled red/yellow/green bells but ever since this guy popped his first pod (at about the size of a quarter) they were black almost... not mushy... like they were rotted out... I pulled the first one thinking it had issues but let another 2-3 grow out to normal size. Seemed weird. One actually seems like its ripening into green a bit....

really weird stuff. The bells from the same seed pack all went green, yellow, red as normal.

Anyways! Just kinda ignored it and let it do its thing. Finally got around to posting... None of the bells have done very well at all.

The more i see other posts the more it sounds like a calcium issue but it kinda surprised me that its only affecting this ONE plant. The rest of the plants look great.

The black pods could just be an unstable seed from the pack? diff variety?

Too hot and low air moisture combined can make the leaves do that.

We can probably rule those out. These were all put out back in the beginning of the season. ~60-65 deg out at night. Also I live on the gulf coast so we have the humidity.

It's been doing it since then. ~4-5 inches tall

Well there is also the possibility of some kind of virus or the soil maybe lacking something, that the plant needs...Calcium perhaps.

My lilac Bell does the same thing. I put it down to the crap tastic sheer amount of heat during the day.

I've had this same problem the past couple of years with some of my Chinense varieties. 2 years ago it was a Red Hab. Last year, it was my White Fatalii and SB7J. This year it's my chocolate Brainstrain. I've tried upping the calcium and/or magnesium, but that seemed to make it worse. Every time, they've still produced a decent amount of pods, so I don't worry much about it. Maybe I should. But perhaps your black pods are Purple Beauty Peppers.

yeah it's hot here this year i'm having the same issues, i also mixed my soil pretty heavy with calcium so that could be a factor.  Plants are snapping out of it somewhat and are trying to make pods.

I have this problem alot. High heat and inconsistent watering. If it were up to me, the water would be consistent. But this year, there is no rain... And before that, it was raining for weeks on end.

Oh, and (not for the OP, but on topic) chocolate brain strains do seem to be a problem child. Move those into the shade after noon. Personally, I don't consider it to be a variety worth growing again, but that's just me. LOL

Yea lol the whole plot gets some insane drooping during the day but they always snap right back out of it in the evening and look great in the morning. If you saw it youd think someone snipped the stalks.

Still kinda weird that this is the lone bastard of the group. I'll try a bit of calmag. The bell next to it is almost double the height and doing awesome.
