Epsom salt and neem oil combination

So about an hour ago I decided to take care of two things at once and mixed Epsom salts in neem oil and thoroughly coated my plants. Not thinking about it until just a few moments ago... did I mix up a very potent herbicide and kill everything?

what you thinking ! lol

Depends how much of each you put in really. Most ferts can be mixed with insecticides and sprayed at the same time. However if you made it too strong that will obviously harm the plants. Mixing them together in itself should not be a problem though

Used 1 tsp/qt of neem, and 2 tsp/qt of Epsom... shit. Haha.

For a dude who literally deals with aquatic herbicides every day at work you'd think I might realize it was a bad idea :mope:

thats o.k. my friend i'm not perfect , i get in a hurry also . neem is organic , i'm sure you'll be alright .        :onfire:

Sometomes you can't mix an oil with stuff.
For instance,NEVER use an oil and sulfur compound together.
Moisture and sunlight cause a reaction that is nasty for your plants - burns the leaves up.

I don't know for sure if Magnesium Sulfate reacts with Oil.

Sulfur and Neem are both organic - it doesn't mean squat.
The reaction is what happens when most oils and sulfur mix.

Also Lime Sulfur is different than Fungicidal Sulfur.

Most Sulfur Products have a warning about using Sulfur products with oil.
I see warnings from waiting a week to 4 weeks after spraying various Sulfur products.
As I said,I don't know if Manesium Sulfate is strong enough to worry about.

I do KNOW that mixing Safer Brand Garden Fumgucide and Neem sucks.
Gotta wash off the oil first...

I sprayed Neem one day to get rid of spider mites.

Sprayed the Fungicide (12% sulfur) the next day at sunset (Sulur is a no no in the sun - creates sufuric Acid with water+sun).
By morning my plants dropped almost all their leaves.
Screwed them up big time within hours after the sulfur spray.
I used the fungicide as a preventative measure to get rid of broad mites that were also present.
Neen didn't work on them.

A hint for Spider mite control.
As it cools off at sunset they gather in clumps in the webs.
Spraying them seems to be more effective when they gather together.
Also I only spray my plants with anything after they are out of direct sun light...

I'd use caution with oils and Sulfur / Sulfates.
I'd guess you would already see if you screwed up,when I did the bad news was delivered very fast to my plants...

Like tomatoes, can't we just sprinkle a little Epsom Salts directly on the soil and then water?

Do red chili peppers benefit from Epson Salts like tomato plants do?

Hmm, this would explain why mixing SM90 and neem efed up my plants last year. And both were used at half strength after sunset, I couldn't understand it.
Great advice Smoke. Good to see ya around.

It only took me 1 time and less than a half hour to screw up about 400 plants at the time.

As I said.
I only researched it after the fact.
Hind site...

It's not a Don't use Epsom Salt in the soil and using Neem on the plants at the same time type thing.

It's Don't risk creating a chemical reaction by spraying them over each other at the same time or whatever.
It might cause a reaction when both are sprayed on the plant at the same time or too close together.

I'm not a fan of Foliar feeding plants anyway.
Leaves are for turning sunlight into good stuff for the plant.
Roots are for feeding the plant-both are designed for what they do.

I'd love to see a study that prevents run off with foliar feeding.

Especially organic stuff - fungus problems etc.
I DO think the organic stuff people use would be better used in the soil.

I've never seen a study that says they PROTECTED the soil from run off from the spray.
Why cloud up a leaf with whatever you are coating them with?
I think it's like putting sun glasses on your plant.

I think low doses of ferts. every time you water is what works best.
At least for me.
I've probably tried about most of the popular teas, ferts. etc.

I get no real improvement in pots as far as I can tell for the most part between just adding the same stuff while watering and spraying my plants.

I wouldn't use straight Magnesium Sulfate without mixing it in water first.
My pump sprayer gets a lot of use adding stuff to my soil when they don't need water yet but I think they need a shot of whatever fert.

The salts could possibly burn roots if you didn't water it in good enough using straight Epsom salt.

BUT I grow in pots ONLY.
Might be cool in a raised garden or in soil.
I don't know.
