As far as I'm concerned "exotic" would be anything you can't get at a grocery store. That's a cool melon!

Bidwell casabas are fantastic. Not really exotic but prolly never found in the grocery store.
Has a distinctly orangy melony flavor. Some call it orange sherbet flavor. One of my favorites.
 
My volunteer gherkin in its own bed. Good distance from the other. This will be the one im hoping to save seeds from. Upper right is a cutting from a Vietnamese coriander. It seems to really like the raised bed too.

Same here! I actually just saw a suggestion for one of his videos on the "ice cream bean", which I saw mentioned here. Turned out to be one of the most interesting channels.

My first imperial star artichoke bud just started popping out. I've got 4 big plants, so hopefully this is a sign of good things to come. This is a different cultivar, compared to the standard green globe artichokes sold in grocery stores, that are grown in Cali. Looks like growing artichokes in the NE is possible after all.

WOW!  Great job!  Did you vernalize the seed?  Three years ago, I'd tried growing these, with no luck.  All I ever got was a bumper crop of black aphids!  However, another gardener here at the gardens did get a bud.  I understand florists will pay big bucks for artichoke blossoms.

Thanks! I vernalized the plants. They got a few weeks straight of sub 55 degree temps. Mid to high 30s at night. They thought they survived a Winter
 
My volunteer gherkin i put in a 4x4 raised bed has it totally covered and growing over. Got some on the vine now too....LOVE THESE THINGS....Never seem to have issues with bugs, virus or mold/mildew...They just grow like crazy.

This is why i dont worry about the breathable weed barrier. You cant even see it now. Pic is from the same spot i took the last one.
