Different people react differently to capsaicin and the different capsaicinoids. I know some people that can't take the burn of fresh Pubescens but can easily eat habs and other C. chinenses, where I'm the other way around with the exact same peppers.
I can't say I've personally ever had a problem with the burn of jalapenos, at least not anything compared to a C. chinenses.
