Fake Pepper as an April fools joke?

Not sure why I keep thinking on this.  If a group of folk got together for an April fools joke, this could be fun.  We invent a pepper name.  We never sell the pods or seeds, dont want to rip anyone off.  We pick a pepper, something common.  We find reputable pod reviewers.  We let them in on the joke and ask them to help.  They review the pepper like normal, but then start saying something like: Wait a minute, this has never happened before, I am getting an erection.  Later they talk about greater girth and length.  Somewhere along the line, the pepper gets a name.  We all start talking about it in the various forums as if it were real, how it makes our dicks grow larger.  We ham it up like a viagra commercial.

Since we chose a fairly common pepper, I am absolutely sure some of the less ethical seed dealers would start relabeling and calling it by the name of our fake pepper.  I imagine the pod reviewers are always asked for seeds, we could convince them to send the seeds from our common pepper and see how long it takes for the unethical seed merchants to start selling the seed stock.  Maybe a season or two.

Then on April 1st, all of the reviewers and everyone in on the joke come clean.  What do you think?  Funny or not funny?  I just keep thinking about the forum conversations people in the know could get away with.  Yes, this post is here and a person could find the truth, but in a year this will be buried.

Thoughts?  The only issue I have is that I am sure various merchants will be selling seed stock and people would get ripped off.

If you want to pull this kind of prank/troll you can't be quiet that obvious. You would just need take take a pepper type that is pretty common, and well known to the pepper community, but not as well to the general public. Not something too suggestive example the peter pepper. But roughly as well known. Now give it's "aphrodisiac" face an easy to remember name, that seems boring. The pepper does need to seem uncommon enough for people to just be coming across it's affects. So maybe one of the oddly shaped/colored peppers, like Bishop's crown, Brazilian starfish, or similar color to a pink tiger. Mind you even just a distinct black, or purple pod would work. Too hot, and it would drive people off.

I do think that with very little effort you could get main stream average Joe people to believe just about anything. The average IQ in America is 6th grade level after all.

I personally think we should spend more effort debunking myths rather than creating a new one.

Just my 2¢

Not aiming for people with serious interests.  Aiming for the ones that you cant tell a thing to anyway.  There are folk who live in such a media fantasy world that reality is lost on them.  But ye, I do get where you are coming from.
