Favourite tomato variety

Hillbilly are great - we grow them every year.  If you like that I'd suggest the following:

Big Rainbow - 8-12oz multicolor fruits who's flesh is a blend of yellow/orange/red/pink

Mortgage Lifter - a big slicer type w fruits up to a pound or more.  Needs space

Brandywine - longtime favorite heirloom slicer (many strains available)

Black Krim - dark purplish fruits with amazing flavor

Those are the mainstays of our garden every year and then we always have some yellow pears & cherry types along with tomatillos.

Totally dropped the ball on tomato starts this year. Do you think I could still do it, or should I just go with store bought? Are any of the strains mentioned above available at stores?

I love tomatoes!! This year I'm growing reds, pinks, blacks, paste, cherry. Aussie, Chapman, Cosmonaut Volkov, Cuostralee, Daniel Burson, Daniels, Grosse Serge, Negrillo, Jazz, etc. About 25 varieties. I try to grow mostly heirlooms, but have a hybrid or two.

There are a lot more varieties these days. Check out nurseries and even Home Depot and Lowes. Don't buy Bonnie Plants, my opinion.

Brandywine and Hungarian Heart tomato are two of my favorites and for a cherry tomato  I like Tumbling Tom....they do great in hanging baskets......I also like Principe Borghese, small plum tomato's  that do very well in container gardens....there are just to many.

Goldman's Italian heirloom, Jersey Devil, Martino's Roma, Paul Robeson, Black cherry. Those are in there every year. I have grown many of the above (Brandywine, Black Krim) and like them a lot, too. I'm pleased with the way Goldman's turned out - large fruit and a lot per plant. Thick walls, good for paste, sauce, salsa...I guess anything, really :)

I have a Rutgers variety and Marmande going this year as well. Rutgers usually turns out well. Marmande didn't work too well last year, so I'll try again.

Everyone seems to love brandywine. Trying yellow brandywine this year.

So many varieties. My pepper addiction kind of boiled over into a pepper, tomato and ground cherry addiction

Thanks for all the new varities (tried quite a few but not all)

Growing this year
Black Cherry
Maglia Rosa
Kellogs Breakfast X
Orange Jazz
George Detsikas Italian Red
Aunt Rubys German Green
Paul Robeson
Sungold
Black from Tula

Going to try and put my plant spacing closer than most years and prune more aggressively to hopefully stave off disease pressure
