Fiesta Mart Score!!

Headed to Fiesta this afternoon for a shopping spree. Rocotos for $3.50/lb.! Had to get some. Had a rocoto/lemon/caper/anchovy pizza tonight. These things are just as good as I remember. Scorching hot, juicy and amazing! Still my favorite pepper.

Also picked up some grapefruit-habanero hot sauce. Gotta love it!

Thanks for reminding me that Fiesta is a great and spicy haven.

Also never have had a rocoto pepper. I look forward to trying them.

Cheers.

Well done, I'll probably never see Rocotos around here until my harvest this year... can't wait to try my rocotos...

How do the orange/yellows compare to the reds? Same difference as in the chinenses (citrusy vs. fruity/floral)?

Unfortunately, I didn't try the red this time and never have. Just oranges. I pickled the rest of them, so I won't get an accurate take, I don't think.

The flavor is very different from the chinenses in general. They don't have as much "nose" as the chinenses, and the texture is almost like a really thick paprika-style pepper. Almost have a crunch like their namesake. Very crunchy, higher sugar content than most chinenses, which I find to have a beautiful smell, but a taste that doesn't always follow through. To me, these have the opposite. And they are still quite hot, but not so much so that you lose the flavor.

After the way you praised them, you bet I am.

PM me if you want to send along an SASBE. I'm happy to share.
