I have never tasted a fresh fig and decided it was well past time for that.
I bought this Italian Honey Fig tree from http://www.figtrees.net/ The diameter of the largerst developing fig is about the size of a nickel. I'll grow this in a pot and winter over in the garage once it is dormant.
I am planning to get a couple more varieties as well. One of them will likely be a Hardy Chicago Fig. They are supossed to be able to survive the winters here in ground. They die back to the ground and grow from there in the spring bearing fruit on the new growth.
