FireEater101 2014 Garden Glog

Hello and welcome to my second year of seed starting and having a glog.  My name is Mike and I love chili peppers.

As you can see last year was a very busy and almost overwhelming year and I never updated here beyond August.  Check out the link above for anymore details.  Needless to say I got at least a freezer full of peppers and a wife that never evicted me from the house.  Made lots of powders and a few hot sauces too! 
 
So for this year 2014 my theme is going to be manageable quality plants producing quality peppers for the entire year.  I started all of my peppers this year from seeds I had from last year so I am keeping the same varieties just a couple less and aiming for 5 plants or around 45-50 plants total this year

I started all of my seeds 11 days ago and am having good germination so far.  Following a crazy snow and ice storm last night my gardening wheels are turning good today so I transferred my Early Jalapeno (4) and Cayenne (5) to red Solo Cups and put them under the grow light today.  I have 4 seeds of Ghost Peppers sprouted and 1 7 Pot.  Still waiting for the first hook from Trini Scorp and CR Habanero.  So here are a few pics.  I hope to have you follow along, give suggestions and make some new friends.  Here is to a great 2014.

Good luck with your grow. It looks like a great start. I read over your 2013 glog and was impressed with how everything turned out, despite the setback you had after planting outside. The plants looked awesome. Sounds like you had a big harvest by the end of the season.

Day 14 in the seed tray and my Trinidad Scorpion has finally gotten its first hook.  Looking to get another 4-5 hooks for the garden.  The Fatali and CR Habs have hooked in the past few days too.  I am impressed my Ghost Peppers I got 7/8 seeds to hook.  Gotta love it saved seeds from last year from Pepperlover.com and last year I got 12/12 plants.  I plan to pot up some more peppers and get them out of the seed tray and under the lights this week.  
 

 
Figured I would post this up too.  Have had some real fun making powders from last years peppers thanks to having a dehydrator.  I figure I will powder up some more of the pepper inventory soon..,less whole peppers in the freezer keeps the wifey happy.  Here is the current pepper inventory Cayenne, Fatali, Ghost, CR Habanero

POT UP TIME!!! I spent a few hours yesterday potting up all of my sprouts from my seed tray to cups and getting them under the lights.  Got the number of plants that I planned except only 1 7 Pot and 1 Trinidad Scorpion after 20 days in the tray.  I am going to keep what I planted of those two in the seed tray and see if anymore will pop as I would like another 3-4 of each pepper.  Time will tell.  Several peppers are getting their first set of true leaves now too.  Now that I freed up most of my seed tray I am read to plant a couple varieties of tomatoes and picked up a flower as I am interested in trying to grow some of them from seeds as well.  Coming along for 20 days in so far this year.  Happy Friday and Weekend and have a great one all.  Thanks for stopping in!!

All of my pepper plants in cups under lights..If you remember I said I was cutting back from last year.  The square table you see in this pic was completely covered with cups last year so much more manageable this go around! What you see in cups below is almost half the table covered.  

 

 

 
Didn't like last years tomatoes so I picked these up this week to try this year.  Never grew either one before but hopefully they will be good varieties.

Thanks! They are coming along nicely so far I believe.  The soil mix I am using is ProMix BX with Myco.  I bought one of those big 3.8 cuft bags last year and am using the same bag again this year too.  I think its good soil.  Can be pricey but it is very easy to work with too.

Pool with deck, shed for mower and kid toys, house deck, trampoline and a hammock in the corner for dad. Oh yea dog house and dog that eats my tomatoes right off the plant but keeps the groundhogs at bay. My future plans for the trampoline.

Thanks!! Oh I can relate to your situation the only places here that I can call my own are the garage and my back yard and yes I get to cut the grass too!! Everywhere else here belongs to my wife and 2 kids.  The backyard has served me well for maintaining the garden and as you can see full sun no trees in this yard!  Hoping for a fun productive year this year.  Thanks for stopping in and I hope your project turns out.  I must say a greenhouse is something I will consider in the future with this gardening and seed sowing fun I have enjoyed.
