HAHA, nice! pepper bonsai ftw!
Â
I totally don't mean to hijack your thread, I just love the idea and wanted to share that I have a couple pepper bonsai going on at my desk at work, lol.

The Purple Flash is perfect for this because it naturally grows super short with small leaves, but the Black Pearl requires some real training.
Â
How's the plant going? Is it thriving? It looks like a good, gnarly stem to build your project. What are the other plants you're bonsaiing?
Â
I don't know if you know Fatalii's guide to bonchi? ( bonsai chillies)Â http://www.fatalii.net/bonsai_chiles_bonchi There's a lot of useful stuff.

If you're taking a bigger plant and hacking the roots to fit into a smaller pot, use leaf wilt as your guide. If leaves wilt, strip some off. If the leaves aren't putting more demand on water supply than the hacked roots can deliver then the plant will survive. Also, if you strip off bigger leaves, as the roots develop and give more push to the plant's growth, all those latent buds will start to sprout, on the stem and at old leaf nodes. It'll give you lots of choices on how to build the shape of the plant.

Good luck. I'm watching with interest.
