First Hot Peppers and First Plant Of Any Kind - Need Advice

So I like hot peppers, here where we currently live there are none so when I went to a larger city I found one of those Ghost Pepper in a Can things so I bought it.

I have 5 plants growing currently which really surprised me, but I have had some issues with Fungus Gnats, a couple plants growing extremely slow and now on one plant it had some buds (or what I think are buds) and one turned brown and withered, and on another plant I have brown spots and a brown tip on a leaf.

Could someone help me? I dont know exactly what I am doing or what to do next.

Three of 5 plants are starting to bud (I guess), they are all indoor plants.....

I will post up some pictures,  guess I have to upload them before I make a thread so BRB

Well I cannot find how to upload my pictures....Are free members allowed to upload pics or just post URL pics?

Here are the pictures........

3 of my 5 plants, other 2 are growing extremely slow.

The plants look pretty darned healthy.  How old are they?

Being inside, in Michigan, during the winter, they won't exactly be getting thermonuclear volumes of light.  Given the conditions, slow growth it to be expected.

Dunnow about the brown spots.  They are pretty trivial at the moment, and I wouldn't stress just yet.  Might? be a bacterial thing?  What's the indoor temp/humidity?  Drier, warmer air might help.

You could augment the light with a cheap CFL or two placed a foot or so over the plants.  Just take care not to shade the natural light.

Impressive grow so far. I would grow in a bit bigger pots, but that's just me. They do look good though. Good luck and

I picked up the seeds in a can thing in late July this year, probably started watering them around second week of August I would think.

Thanks, hope they do what they are supposed too and produce lots of tastey peppersL
They are in Natures Care Organic Potting Mix and I have fed them maybe 4x with Vigoro All Purpose Plant Food 10/10/10 since thats all I could really find in a liquid here. I plan on going to the Hydro store soon, but I am affraid of what they will try to charge me for food since they are the only one around for probably 50 miles. They drink well water so no chlorine or stuff like city water.

Im doing. The same thing. Welcome to THP! I started my first ghost peppers the exact same can. Lol how long to get them like that? Good luck man!

It had been about 80-85 days or so since I added water to the can originally (I believe). Once they finally sprouted they grew pretty quick, I had them in a window which got afternoon sun (only in mid 70's at the time) supplemented with a small desk lamp with a CFL that I kept about 2-2.5" above them once they got their first leaves, did this 24/7 till I transplanted them which was when they started their 3rd set of leaves I think.

I have never grown peppers before but from what I gather they do not care for a lot of humidity, dont terrariums tend to be humid?

Welcome to THP. Your plants are wonderful. I have datil pepper seeds in a black can like you picture. Darn things haven't germinated despite the fact I have like 20 peppers sprouting.

I leave the top off and only water the plants not the entire soil. Just enough to keep the top 1/4" moist around the plants. Been working great! Now i just need to transplant to buckets and let them thrive.

Welcome to THP.  Gotta say for a couple of years I have been fascinated with those canned plants.  Never got around to buying one to see whats in it.  Is the can cardboard and filled with potting soil?

Cans are metal like the mini soda cans, the potting material is little squares of something, along with little pieces of what looks like cotton. For the price it really isnt too bad I guess, I got 5 plants from mine for $10 and all I had to do was add water. Figure to make one like this you need to buy a soda and the potting material and the plastic lid $3, if the plants produce good quality peppers thats pretty close to retail pricing for the seeds.

3 of my plants are not doing that great but 2 are doing real good so in reality if you get guaranteed seeds (if there is such a thing with peppers) the can is a total rip off, if you buy hit and miss seeds then its priced about right, maybe a little high for convenience....

That's awesome, one of my co-workers handed out those cans to everyone in the office and folks just started growing them in their windows. People were getting ghost peppers without ever moving them from the can! I actually got the seeds from one and am trying to germinate them right now.

Looks like you got the soil right when re-potting, but one mistake people made in my office was re-potting them into soil that was too dense. It killed them off pretty quick.

Good luck with it all!

Instead of making a new thread, I will just add onto this one....

As some may know I ordered a tent for my peppers, got me two cheap Flo. light fixtures  (T8) and since I mentioned that purchase they have been in there.

The temp stays from 72 at night to 83 in the day and ust picked up a new Weather Center/Meter which has humidity since my other did not.

So here is what i have noticed, my two larger plants, the bottom big leaves are turning yellow and dropping off, I am thinking it's due to low light penetration but not sure.

There is a good amount of new growth and everything looks pretty healthy otherwise.

With this new meter right now its 75.6 with 31% humidity and in the tent with lights on 80.8 and 47% humidity.

Does the yellowing leaves sound like nitrogen or just light issues?
