The local feed store has alfalfa pellets for $18.99 for a 50 lb. bag.
Have you heard of issues with anaerobic decomposition of alfalfa when added directly to potting mix? Your post got me thinking about using it as a slow-release source of Nitrogen in my containers, but then I thought about what it might turn into if it decomposes in a container without being turned like a compost heap.
Also, are those just sold as pellets for animal feed? I am going to look into this. Thanks for the heads up.

No I haven't heard of any issues Dash. Yes they are animal feed pellets. The pellets break up quickly after becoming wet and I am mixing all my soil ingredients together and wetting it and then letting it sit for a month or more to "cook" before planting into it.
