Frozen pod weight vs fresh pod weight

I'm trying to finalize my Yellow 7 Pot based hot sauce recipe.  Please see:

http://thehotpepper.com/topic/56680-something-to-do-with-my-yellow-7s/

I am happy with the amounts of non-pepper ingredients, but don't have the heat level 100% finalized—I want it hotter than my last batch, so I'll be adding more pods to my next batch.  For my last batch, I used 7 fresh Yellow 7 Pots + 5.8 grams of dried Yellow 7 pots.

I'll be making the next batch later in the week.  I figured it would make sense to weigh the pods before adding them, so when I finally achieve a sauce with a perfect heat level, I'll be able to replicate the sauce exactly.  For the next batch, I'll be using frozen pods—putting them directly into the blender.  I'm assuming that once frozen, a pod will weigh more than when it was fresh.  Assuming this is true, I will need to know the exact percentage of weight that freezing adds to the pods.  This way, I'll be able to adjust the weight of pods to add when I make a batch using fresh pods, or a mixture of fresh and frozen pods.

So - what percentage of weight does one add to a fresh pod by freezing it?

Thanks

You could take a sample group of pods that weigh very similar, then freeze them. Once frozen weigh them again and then calculate the weight differences. Add all the differences together and divide by the number of pods that you weighed and get the average weight difference for a group of peppers. This would give you a pretty good baseline to go off of.

Thank you.  I should have thought of this before freezing all of the pods currently in my freezer.  Whether or not somebody replies with an exact formula, I'll do this next season, as my Yellow 7 Pot growing season is over for now.

Freezing does not add weight to anything, it just changes the physical characteristics. Mass is not influenced by being frozen or thawed except in state.

I get this, but in my Ziplocs that are reasonably well sealed, I'm sure that there is some water condensation(that freezes)  around the pods which will add to the weight.

Water will evaporate during the heating process and will become a non issue for heat of the sauce. And most of the moisture that is forming and freezing on the pods came from the pods in the first place.

Are you also using the same 5.8grams of dried yellow 7's?  If subbing frozen for the dried, that will be of more concern.

I agree with CAPCOM...even with marginally sealed bags, all of the moisture/frost in the bag comes from the pods themselves and should be included in the mixture.  Weight Fresh=Weight Frozen

Be aware that when frozen pods defrost, they drop a TON of water content.  Not an issue when frozen pods are put into the sauce mix, but if you are wanting to dehydrate frozen pods, it could be a bit of a mess if not prepared.

Just a little FYI~~~ :)

For the next batch, I'm only going to be using frozen pods, but in the future, I'll use fresh and a combination of fresh and frozen.  Thanks for the information.  Also, thanks for the BIG FYI :)  I'll be sure to put the frozen pods into the blender as soon as I take them out of the freezer, so as not to make a mess, and not to lose any pepper matter.

I gave salsalady the "Best Answer" credit, because I've known her for a while and always trust her advice, but you basically gave me the same answer, and I appreciate the help.
