Fruit set...

Some good info that I recently found abt pepper fruit set...

Fruits do not set when mean temperatures are below
60oF or above 90oF. However, flowers drop when night
temperatures are above 75oF. Fruit set may be stalled if
temperatures rise above 90oF after several flowers have set
and fruits are developing. This causes a split in the fruit
setting continuum and is called a split-set.

Interesting article. So what they're saying is that we all need to invest in air conditioners for our plants? :)

not really plant will adjust themselvs so even if its over 95 they still produce but he is talking about the avrage or the best range of tepm. even if it gets too cold some plants like it this way .... rocotos mainly.
so the variety it self plays major rule in success for turning flowers to pods.
the watering system alos, if you water them in the midle of the day when its 90 ya u gonna lose the flowers and maybe the plant.

so i think the best way it to try your area and try to find out whats fits there ,

interesting. it's been about 85 during the day and about 56 to 58 during the night. good sets now. that explains summertime this year. 105 during the day and 88 to 91 at night. that sucked. i hope it's not like that during the day or i'll have to kick al gore's ass!

yeah, I was about to say, if that was true I wouldn't have any pods. I think it depends on the variety. I have big luscious plants that gave me pods all summer long. However, 2 out of the 20 varieties that I grow did not set a pod until September, my NMSU bhut, and my Red Savina.

That data is from NM... each region and variety will vary, but as a general rule the numbers will be close.

Good conversation going and that was the point of the post!

Those temps are definitely accurate for my growing this year. Had absolutely nothing on my plants for months when it was over 90 and over 75 at night. Plants started going crazy when the night temps dropped to the 60s and day temps in the high 70s/low 80s. Unfortunately it all happened a little to late. Which is why I am starting my crop right now lol
