seeds-germination Germination question on soil

I'd suggest avoiding the compost since its usually high in nitrogen. You normally don't want any(or very little) fertilizers early on
I've never had a problem with the paper towel method, I call it the fool proof method and reccommend it especially for stubborn seeds. I assume the problems arise when the paper towel is too wet or too warm, or poor quality water(improper ph, nutrients, chlorine etc.)

Yes. But it's also available in pellet/puck form. When water is added they expand quickly to about 1-1/2"dia. x 3" tall. I plant 2 seeds per puck. I then put them in a Tupperware container until the seeds sprout.
