water Goldfish Water for Fert

We enjoy a small 20 gal fountain with a bubbler and keep four comet goldfish.
They are fun to watch..look like koi, and are very hardy ( a heater helps on cold nights).
I started using the fountain water on my peppers each time I clean out the fountain and they
never looked better..anyone else ever try this..? Seem like a good idea..Can algae hurt peppers?

There used to be a member around here that used his fish water. If I remember right he had pretty good success with it.
 
I have a 80 gallon fish tank and I will water my young seedlings with the water all the chlorine is evaporated out of it and as a bonus its a low dose fert with the disolved fish waste.
 
yes actually it will be great!!

fish dookie is great fert!!
and the disolved organic waste in the water such as the nitrate are free nitogen that the plants will eat up, also ammonia from the urine is good

however even though in most cases its not a problem becasue goldfish are fresh water, if you added salt to the water as a disease preventive or aid to medicatons for disease, its not a good idea to use it as it can cause damage to plants,

i have had numerous fish tanks and was a freshwater fish specialist for 20 plus years and i can tell you go for its good stuff

the hydro store has a 100 gallon koi pond/hydro setup that is self sufficient. pond water gets pumped up to the black tubes and runs down back to the pond and aerates the water as it hits(like a waterfall) its pretty dang cool!
 
i have seen where people use talapia in there systems and then when there big enough they eat them a win win situation!!

You beat me to it. Back in middle school, our tech wing had one of these set ups. I think its called aquaponics. They grew a bunch of herbs and sold it to local restaraunts. Really cool!
 
Your goldfish are temperate fish and enjoy the cold snaps you may have more than they enjoy your hot summers.

IMO you would never need a heater for your goldfish, and your dishwater is great for your plants.

I have a 300 gallon tank, I use my old water and the plants appreciate it.
 
I've seen some nice aquaponics systems at work, but its usually only lettuce or herbs growing. Chiles would likely require a more balanced feed

I find it very rewarding to grow at least some of our food, and
doing so naturally and efficiently just makes it even better.
I am gearing up for composting next.
