Gorizza's Excellent Adventure

I've been putting off doing this but now I want to show some pictures of insect damage but don't have the GLOG set up yet! so here's a crash course into what and where I'm growing this year. I hope to detail each location more thoroughly soon.
 
This year I saved some seed and plants from last year's grow, and also ordered a few varieties from puckerbutt's "Chris Phillips Collection." Briefly,
 

• Moruga Yellow
• Apocalypse Red
• Bhut x Neyde - CP Special Orange from Puckerbutt's Chris Phillips collection
• Black Bhutlah F2, going to try to grow a few of these, I like experimenting with early generations
• Vietnamese Tear Jerker
• Lotabih Jolokia
• Maldivian Heart x Purple Bhut F3
• Orange Tepin
• C7 from Smokin Ed
• Carolina Reaper
• X3R Red Knight
• Numex Heritage 6-4
• Numex Easter
• Yatsufusah
• Yellow Scotch Bonnett
• Tepin from Park Seed
• Habanero
• "Ghost Pepper" a gift from a friend. Probably a Bhut Jolokia but maybe a color varient we'll see.
• Douglah, have 2 plants over wintered from last year, haven't germinated any new seeds for this year
• Trinidad Morgua Scorpion, 3 overwintered plants is all I need
• Aji (taken from the NMSU pepper teaching garden. I could probably learn more about this weird strain)
• 8 Guatemalan landraces, I'll try to do a post specific to them at some point.

 
I'm growing at 4 locations: Pots in the front yard, a garden bed, pots in a back porch across town, and windowsill pots in my laboratory.

     Sandy loam soil? In a few weeks I'll be moving to an area with similar soil (If I'm guessing right about your soil...). Fine sandy loam soil down to about 30", then clay hardpan. Do you amend with a lot of organic matter to improve structure etc.?

The area is actually a hard clay soil, I've just spent a few years using this garden and 2 years ago I put a bunch of sand in it, haha. I put a few bags of cow manure  on it this year. The soil for the pots all comes from a pile behind some greenhouses at the local university, haha!
 
The over wintered plants are a habanero and a superhot on the deck, a hab in the garden, and 2 superhots in the front yard. I lost the labels for the superhots but I am sure they are either Moruga Scorpion or 7-pot Douglah. I'll get some more pics of these plants when the sun comes back out

I've got 5 OWs planted this year, here are 2 of them:
 
This is my biggest plant this year, flowering but hasn't set any pods. I've been fertilizing with Vermi-all, Osmocote, and Fish Emulsion

 
 
Here's the other. This one is planted in a smaller felt pot. First experience with planting in these pots. I was expecting to have to water it more but not really. Maybe because the soil doesn't heat up as much?

 
 
Bonus Pic!: This is going to be my first harvest of the year, Bhut Jolokia! My friend Gary started this plant indoors months and months ago, so as soon as I got him outside in the heat he put off a few new leaves and started setting fruit.

Noticed something odd today. I fertilized my deck plants with osmocote plus (perhaps too much, but its slow release so what is too much?) 2 days ago before a hard rain and then a partly cloudy/ partly sunny day. Today I noticed all of this mold growing in each pot. Could it be feeding on my fertilizer? Has anyone encountered this before?  I was considering treating with agrimycin, but concerned that killing microbes in my pots might not be a great idea for root health.

So I mostly cleared up the mold in the "porch" location with some spectromycin yesterday, looking better today. The weather hasn't cleared up but I wanted to brag on 2 of my plants in particular:
 
 
I've got a Lotabih Jolokia that has really exploded in the last week or so

I experienced something similar with my Baby's Breath this year. It popped up when it was really wet and humid April/early May.  I sprinkled some cinnamon and pretended it didn't bother me. A forum dated years back said that it was a common occurrence in potted plants when the soil doesn't get the chance to dry and it won't harm the plant.

The white mold disappeared once the weather in NJ finally decided it was summer. The wispy fibers just stuck to the soil and never creeped up the stalk or affect the plant's health. Two weeks of comfy 86~89 degree weather and nice breezes seem to have done the trick.
 
Be on the look out if it occurs again.

Two pics of my small garden plot, lets play some Jalapeno M and Numex Heritage 6-4 coming in on the right side. The left side peppers are still pretty small.  Tomato has Septoria Leaf Spot very bad. Nothing really to do about it now but watch my tomatoes die...
