Got some special "Summer Sun" F1 tomatos and chocolate cherry tomatos

Hi every one,

A farmer friend who involved in the Israeli agriculture genetic engineering just drop me some "yellow gold"!

This is the "summer sun" tomato (looks like any other yellow tomato) that are strong and sweet!
Of course before eating the 2 ones he gave me I had to pic and dry some seeeds :-).

I hope to try and rais them with hydroponics and in my garden.

In the article it says, it's sterile and therefore doesn't have seeds? Also it's a Hybrid so there's a big chance when you grow the seeds it's completely different.

yeah its a hybrid so when you plant those seeds the offspring "fruits" are going to be alot different than what you have there.

the one thing you have to remember about hybrids, is a genetic champ blends 2 varieties to try and produce an end product that has specific characteristics. so the yellow tomato just may have been blended in the hopes of just getting a tomato that is split resistant or a certain disease resistance. and nothing to do at all with flavour.

the point being, if the seeds are viable you may actually get a better tasting tomato but may split or is prone to a certain disease(doesn't mean your plants will get the disease). i believe black cherry is an heirloom tomato, so why the designer blended this product, you may just revert back to black cherry. of all my 2012 cherry style tomatoes, the black cherry had the least flavour, not that it was bad but when snack upon next to sungold, there was worlds of distance between the 2.

for 2013, i will grow both sungold(F1) and seeds saved from 2012 sungold fruit for a comparison, then report back on forums that have asked that question. my ultimate wish is to attempt the momotaro to see what comes of that - i don't have seeds but that is one of my big wish attempts for the future.

About Summer Sun this tomato is stable one and the one that they grow for seeds - not the first ones from 2007 mention in the link.
about the black cherry, our tomato in Israel are raised in th Negev on south Israel in desert place.
This black cherry are very sweet andd tasty.
you can find thous kind of black cherry on some uniqe places in the Israeli market.
I'll try to find how they cold here in Israel becuse we have at least 2-3 black cherry type on market sometimes.
