greenhouse Greenhouse or Growtent?

Hello All!

I am torn between two things. I am starting a bunch of seeds, ad right now they are in my room. I need to move them outside, so i don't know if i should buy a green house or a grow tent. I have a T8 Fixture running 6500K 2 lights and 2700 lumens each.

I want something that i can start seeds in, keep the plants well in the winter, etc...

Which one is a better option?

Thanks!

The HD tent will help starting them outside and through the hardening process, but it wont help during the cold days. Tent would be better through the winter. Rather than buy a tent you could make one just to start seeds with PVC. I made one for this year just to start the plants inside through the winter and only cost me 20 dollars or less I think it 2' x 4' x 2' and you could get mylar to cover it.

If you want to keep your plants growing 24/7 during the winter I would just use a closet if you have a spare one. I found simply buying mylar and taping it to the inside of a closet was just as good if not better than a tent that cost a few hundred bucks. Leave the closet open about 12" and use an inline fan connected to your hood to exhaust from your HID lamp and a small fan on the bottom to bring air in. Leave a window open and close the room. I grew plants all winter long that way in my game room and had great results.

Like folks said, it depends on your intentions! If you plan on growing indoors yr around, then a grow tent, you can make one yourself if you want to go the cheap route. If you wanna grow indoors and out then Id go with a greenhouse. Also, the humidity will be better in a greenhouse rather then a grow tent, which is better for the plants and producing fruit. I know this because I have to use a humidifier to keep the Rh at 60%+ for my grow tent grow.

I love my greenhouses, grew the entire winter outside. They are 6x8 with shelving, so room to start a bunch of seeds (perfect time now for doing this outdoors), and plenty of room for some larger plants too. I bought mine off eBay, $107/ea. They do fine with the heavy winds we get at times. I had a hoop type greenhouse before and the winds demolished it! The units I have now with shelving weigh 100 lbs without plants on the shelves, very sturdy. Will send you the link later tonight so you can check it out. You starting some of the seeds I sent you? :)

EDIT: Did not find the exact one I purchased but this is similar. http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-x-7-Portable-Greenhouse-Kit-Distressed-Inventory-Sale-/300706841450?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item460386436a

Now this will work for starting seeds during the warm months, but when it cools down you can't germinate inside. Doesn't stay warm enough. Being in socal we don't get a real winter and very few frost warnings. So you don't really need anything that will keep them warm during winter, just protect them from the rain and winds. I have some huge overwinters as a result of using these greenhouses!

Keep in mind that if you will be starting seeds during the colder months, indoor tent is the way to go. I got my setup indoors pretty late but I won't germinate any other way next year. Any new seeds I start will be done in my indoor tent, with a 4bulb T5 fixture and these monster cfl's they sell at home depot for $15. Not sure if this is the same one but these are the types of cfl's I am talking about. http://www.amazon.com/65-Watt-Spectrum-Daylight-Warranty/dp/B002ZPMI62/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1336879124&sr=8-3

It all boils down to what you are comfortable with spending right now, you can always upgrade later. ;)

I have a grow tent in my green house. Yea i know a little overboard i thought but turns out that i needed both. Green house for growing all year and the tent for starting and i use it to dry peppers in with hanging nets.
