if you are going to grow pepper plants to maturity that produce nicely, you need about 3K lumens/sq foot of space...choices are boundless for what type of lighting to use...the controlled environment is a good thing...but you need to pay close attention for aphid/spidermite infestation...for aphids, if you see shiny spots on a leaf...look on the underside of the leaf above it and chances are, you will see aphids...spidermites are very very small...barely visible with the naked eye...if you see tiny spider webs on the plant, check for spidermites...

I use a grow box that is 4'X 4' X 6' tall with 18 42 watt red spectrum CFLs in there...each 42 watt CFL puts out 2700 lumens

you can pick jalapenos anytime you want...once they are green and show some corking, they are ready...you can also wait until they turn red...they are a little sweeter when they redden up...
