Grinding Pepper Powder...with/without seeds?

I'm just trying to get a consensus on whether leaving the seeds in the pods increases bitterness. Any other negatives to leaving them in?

Its a process but I try to remove as many before dehydrating. One reason is to retain as much as the original color of the dryed pods as possible and I feel the seeds have no beneficial taste.

Removing the seeds can get pretty labor intensive, especially the first few goes at it. The first batch I did, I did without seeds, and the 2nd, I just didn't have the time, and I left the seeds in. I didn't notice a discernable difference in the two as far as taste, so PIC 1's got a point...

That's good to know, Joyner... When I did my batch without de-seeding them, I had them open side up after cutting them in half. Next time, I'll try open side down and see if that makes any difference :)

Since I make powder for myself and a few freinds I do it the old fashion way. simple lil' mortat/pestal and a small flour sifter to remove the seeds. A small effort but worth it I think.
cheers !

Man OhioHeat you are a maniac.

I did that once to some Thai/Vietnam hot peppers and cried blind with burning face for a half an hour.

Never again. I will put the buggers outside on a heater and then outside in a grinder from now on----I know a guy that boils peppers on the stove and they leave the house when they do it----this stuff is EVIL---no question.

Edit---Notice the clothing and goggles and mask and face covering on Joyner's Pic----there is a reason for that; ant it aint cause it is cold outside!!!!!

Nothing truer has been spoken! I had 15 trays dehydrating and the pain factor was off the scale, same could be said for the 7+ pounds I recently smoked. I often joke about having my powders in carry-on luggage.

Well I didn't mention that I wear the heavy playtex gloves and a cheapy facemask to keep the dust out but then there's nothing like crushing/sifting my lil friends while my eyes are watering some and snot running out of my nose ... It's those little things that makes life bearable. And having a cold Sam Adams or 2 afterwards helps also.

Cheers

OhioHeat, nice mortat/pestal, looks similar to the one I use, so I had to run into the kitchen and shoot a pic to show you, lol. Although I don't use mine to make powder, coffee grinder is easier, though I do use it for loads of other stuff.

I frequently dehydrate my pods first, at a low temp, then remove the seeds. I like to keep the seeds so I can germinate them, and they're much easier to remove from dried pods than from fresh ones. Just be sure to dry at no more than 95F to retain the seed viability.
