indoor Grow Tents

I'm thinking about ordering one of those grow tents from HTG Supply. It will give me an immediate and what looks to be convenient place to grow out my peppers for another two months before plant out. I could also use it to grow some peps year round.

Anyone have or use one of these grow tents? What has your experience been?

Grow tents are great man, but for broke suckas like myself, a PVC cage & panda plastic have to do. Not quite as nice, but like 1/4 to 1/3 the price of a pre-made one.

If you can afford it, I suggest grab it. Allows you to control the environment, helps reflect light, etc.

I happen to be mechanically challenged so building things usually end up costing me more money than if I just bought the finished product in the first place:(.

I'm all for saving a couple bucks, though. Can you give me advice on how to make what you described or show a pic.

Thanks.

Absolutely man, give me 2 seconds to snap pics.

Best thing about building one this way, is that it's adjustable. For simplicity, all of my pipes are 30" right now, since pvc is sold in 5' & 10' sections, which is 60". I didn't need a 5' tall chamber since it was originally just for seedlings, but i knew i eventually wanted an HID light so I planned ahead. This weekend i'm replacing the 30" vertical pipes with 60" vertical pipes.

I'm actually considering upgrading to 2" pvc pipe instead of 1" for strength, but 1" is really strong on its on so I can't decide.

But anyway, here is what it looks like:

You need:
Enough pvc pipe for 13 sections:
4 for top
4 for bottom
4 for sides
1 for across top to hold light
10 T connectors
8 90* elbows
2 or 4 chains, depending on your light
2 sturdy eye hooks

I couldn't find 3 way connectors for the corners which kept me from building this for the longest time, then I finally had a great idea that a 90* elbow & a T connector work the same lol.

The plastic is called "panda plastic" usually sold in bulk at hydro stores by the foot. It's 10' wide, so if you buy 10' you get 100ft^2. It's cheap too.

They also sell stick on zippers for the plastic.

You just stick it on the plastic, unzip it, cut inside the lenght of the zipper with a knife. Tada, instant door. Pretty sweet.

And just secure it all with some duct tape, create some means of ventilation, like cutting a hole for a fan and that's it.

I'm just going to set a few rubbermaid containers on the bottom of mine to set everything in.

If you watch this weekend, I'm going to build it the rest of the way up :)

That's a great rig, TX!

Where did you get the pvc and the connectors, Home Depot?

Also, did you cut the pipes or did the place where you bought it cut 'em?

I bought a cheap ass hacksaw and cut them myself. And yeah, all the connectors are right next to the pipes. Just get standard white, sch40 PVC pipe. 1" or 2", depending on how much you wanna spend. I think mine was about 40 bucks altogether. Hacksaw included.

Be sure to account for the length of the connectors when you cut the pieces. Mainly the top where you put the T connector in the middle.

Also, you need a small piece of pipe to stick in between the two connectors.

Oh, and I didn't glue mine, it's just press fit so I can take it down. Seems to be plenty strong but if you want it permanent you can always get PVC glue.

Is this a adaptation from pot growers? It seems a little excessive for growing peppers unless you have to put them in an unheated basement or garage.

Probably. Enclosing the plants makes better use of light as well as lets you control humidity, temperature, hrs of light etc. Plus, I'm gonna have a 400W HPS light come monday, and that shit is too bright to just have out in my bedroom or living room lol.

If you have an enclosed box, you can control variables inside of it. You can control temperature and humidity, with heating, ventilation, etc. If you just have your plants out in a room inside your house, they're gonna be at whatever temp/humidity your house is at.

Kinda using a box for starting seedlings except on a larger scale.

I have one of the imitation tents, no brand. Can be seen in my grow log thread. It works nice, im sure i or anyone else can build a equivalent, but if you dont want to, like me, then a tent is very good, the best part is that you easily can regulate the climate.

THAT is exactly what I need for my el cheapo plastic greenhouse. It's starting to fall apart at the seams. Now I can zip it back up! Thanks!
