growing ginger

I've grown it for years. Pick a fresh root with as many root nubs as possible. Place in potting soil and suitable sized container. Sunny window or filtered sun if on deck. Never had mine bloom. You'll have fresh ginger year round.
 
grew it for a few years, never had it bloom either, originally planted some pieces from the grocery store that had sprouted, propagated more from there each year.
 
2 gallon or larger pot
regular potting soil with good drainage - moist, not wet
shoots will appear in a few weeks - depending on root quality
2-3 foot tall
harvest in a few months - I wait until I see new spouts indicating that the root has grown
you can divide the root into smaller as long as there are plenty of spoutlets
