Has anyone grown: 'Candy Cane' F1, 'Mad Hatter' F1 or 'Naga Viper Orange'?

Hey there, 
 
I picked up these plants from a nursery (Bunning's, for my fellow Aussies) and was wondering if anyone here tried them this year, and if so, how did you find growing them? I believe the first two are new in 2017, and initially I thought they were just a Fish Pepper and a Bishop's Crown that had just been rebranded. Apparently they're both sweet peppers (so I feel somewhat swindled, but at least it should be fun to play around with in terms of cross-breeding/growing out the mystery bag that is saved F1 seeds) 

The Naga Viper Orange I couldn't find an info on anywhere either and wondering if it's just a red one or possibly a hybrid?

I cannot see any pics, but it sounds like made up names for new crosses.
Selling F1 crosses ????? :confused:
 
I would bet money that the "Candy Cane" is a Fish pepper crossed with something. It looks just like a fish pepper but with larger pods. The "Mad Hatter" does look a lot like a Bishop's Crown/ Bishop's Hat. These should be quite decent peppers, easy to grow and pretty good flavor if they are anything like the varieties that they resemble. "Mad Hatter" is supposed to be a baccatum, and I've never had a bad tasting baccatum, so that one at least should be OK.  :D  Hmm, I see the description on this AAS webpage lists the "common name" of the Mad Hatter F1 as the Bishop's Crown pepper, so I'm not exactly sure what is going on with that: http://all-americaselections.org/product/pepper-mad-hatter/
 
I have not heard of an Orange Naga Viper specifically, but I have seen red, chocolate, and even purple variants, so why not orange? 
 
I tend to agree with Karoo that those first two just sound like made up names for new crosses. I'm not surprised to see stores selling F1 crosses though, they do it all the time with hybrid tomatoes. F1 hybrids are usually pretty consistent, can be quite vigorous, high yielding and disease resistant. Plus, it forces the customers to keep buying the same seeds or plants again every year.
 
Thanks for your thoughts! I've actually got some Fish Peppers that I'm growing from seed, so I'm interested to see how crossing the Candy Cane works out. 
 
These last couple of purchases have admittedly been impulsive - but I've got pepper madness. Up to 30-odd varieties since starting indoors in May, we'll see how I manage as a first timer. 
 
Any idea how they manage to come up with hybrids at such a large scale? Presumably they can't just cross-pollenate all of them by hand? I'd imagine if you just left two parent plants in close proximity  to cross-pollinate then only some of the yielding seed would be crossed, with others being self-pollinated and resembling the parent.

Will do! Here's the only info I have on it. From a nursery in Australia called Haar's. Their website has nothing on their "Food For Life: Hot Heads" range. The SHU is oddly specific, but I guess if it is a new variety they're just going with the original as a guide?

That is the exact record for the Original Naga Viper.
 
I've never heard of an Orange Viper, I'll have to keep an eye out at my Bunnings if they come into stock. 
 
Most annoying thing about the Viper is that saving seeds doesn't usually work out too well...
 
Iv'e seen the chocolate naga viper.  My buddy just texted me a pic of one he just got in the mail.  He says it's one of the hottest peppers he had so far, and he's had lots of supers.

I love the things, but I personally wouldn't class them as a superhot in spite of their Naga pedigree.  Big, gnarly chocolate King Nagas in look, for sure.  They wreck the face of most people I give them to, but for whatever reason they do not seem very hot to me at all.  Might just not affect me for some reason, but I'd be seriously surprised if any of the ones I've eaten would test within a couple 100,000 of the bhut's million mark that I consider 'starting superhot range'.  Like between Fatalii and Bhut heat levels, to me.
 
Still, they look awesome and taste great.  Will try to get some pictures of mine tomorrow when I finally get around to updating my glog.
