Hi Fiogga, yeh i have never grown black tomatos before but im looking forward to see what there like this season. Our season is over here in Indiana but I grow a number of heirloom tomatoes. My favorites are the black varieties, Indian Stripe, Big Cheef, Cherokee Purple, Black Krim, Black Cherry. A new one I tried this year was Adah's Potato leaf, it's pink, large slicer similar to Brandy wine, very disease resistant and delicious. You have a great list there, hope you have a great season. Oh another great yellow one is Casey's Pure Yellow, and Gerties Gold.
Looking good moo, i did try to grow yellow pear last year from seedlings i got from waldeck , funny how they turned out to be red tomatos , never really know what you will get from nusreys , thats why i have bought all my seeds from the diggers club , that way i know what im growing and im able to save seeds. This is what I'm growing this season.
Purple Calabash

WOW some of these varietys i have never herd of , maybe i need to look at seed banks outside of australia, i did get the black cherry to try this year and black krim as iv been told they are tasty .Next year I plan to only grow a few varieties including:German red strawberry, opalka, mule team, and I haven't decided what type of cherry tom, although I usually grow sungold(hybrid)
I was extremely happy with the mule team over the last couple years and it will likely be my main crop again next year. They have a great flavor, good size, are quite productive, and seem quite resistant to scaring and cracking
Hi Burning colan , can you tell me what you thought of the black cherry and black krim ?one of our seed banks over here in Oz raves about them.of course all my peppers are in cardboard containers, trying to ripen due to the cold...........but............

Hi Roper , yeh i got some yellow pear seedlings last season , but they all started to turn red instead of yellow so i once again never got what the label said , thats why this year i have grown from seeds i have bought .Well, this is what I grew this summer. Cherokee Purple PL, Rebel Yell F5, Brandywine red, Sandul Molovan,
Pink Bulgarian, Dana's Dusky Rose, Stump of the World, Sweet Beverly and Dr.Carolyn Pink.
Next year will be, Cherokee Purple PL, Rebel Yell F6, German Red Strawberry, Tommy Toe Red, Casino Chips,
plus others that are undecided yet.
Have you guys tried yellow pear? Sometimes kids like them.

Thanks mate for you post , the place i get my seeds from is the diggers club here in OZ and they only seem to have a handfull of types that they sell and they do allot of testing and only stock what they think is up there close to the top ten , im wondering if soil , temp, and grow seasons have anything to do with the taste? my grandfather would only ever grow gross lissi , my plants are about a foot tall and i will let you know what i think of the black krim and black cherry, and maybe there is a slight variation between the ones i have and the ones the garden centre your bought yours from have , i dont know but i will be saving seeds from them and your more than welcome to give them a try again if you want me to send you some seeds.black cherry was uneventful and i will most likely not grow them next year, they had the least amount of flavour of all my cherry types. i didn't hate them, as a matter of fact i just munched down a couple, but compared to the others, not good enough to keep. sungold won for cherry type and the plants where over 8 feet tall.
my two biggest disappointments were black krim and black of tula. they made nice juicy tomatoes but they didn't have that "top 10 best tomatoes" award(imo), sorry, i bought into the hype too. the red brandywine won hands down for flavour. the black krim had the most scaring. now, it could of been the garden centre where i bought them and questionable about the origins of the plants - it is kind of hard to believe so many internet posts bragging about these 2 tomatoes and how super delicious they are compared to my experience. i would be willing to retry them from a different supplier. i can't give an opinion on the purple cherokee, i bought a late season plant and have only tasted 1 small tomato, so i am waiting for the others to ripen.
i do have what appears to be a nebraska wedding ripening but until i taste it, i have no opinion. the university of manitoba put out a prairie friendly tomato called starfire, this produced some really pretty fruit and consistent but the flavour was bland - still have several fully ripe pods on the plant that i am trying to get to.
i visit her site occasisonally but she lives in one of those prime growing areas in canada that may see snow 1 day a year. i'm under another winter storm warning.
now the Potster has me googling the mules, just when i thought nothing could get better than a red brandywine.
Hi Roper after buying beams yellow pear seedlings and having them turn into red figs and tasteing them i am not going to be growing them again as i to thought they were bland, as for the conditions im growing in, all my soil is certified organic so im hopeing that is going to help with flavour along with the long hot summer.Sownseeds, sorry to say this but, yellow pear is very bland. I can say one good thing about it, extremely productive.
Burning Colon, or Josh, I think. Someone may say a tomato taste great and you grow, and it just taste so, so.. A lot of factors affect
flavor, such as soil, rain, hot, cold. I grew black krim, and it was good, but not great, in my garden. Red Brandywine was okay this
summer, maybe it will be better next year, if I grow it again....Now Patowie likes Mule Team, which I have seeds for but have not
grown yet. I did grow Box Car Willie, and they are almost the same tomato. I've heard the mule team is a little better. I have not
tried Black from Tula yet, but also have seeds to it....I'm grow different tomatoes every year to see which is my favorite...Good luck
with the Cherokee Purple. It's a great tomato IMO
Hay moo try this , get a bunch of tomatos , chop them up and fry them with onions, mushrooms till its like a chunky paste and serve it on toast with some bbq sauce. Maybe add a bit of chilli chunks to it just before you wack it on toast.Wouldn't have a clue about the taste cos I don't actually like to eat tomatoes whole. Don't know why it just grosses me out a bit. Pureed is fine and I'll happily mash them into a ragoo or sauce.
I chose to grow a bunch of varieties that look different, like Aunty Ruby's Green which is all stripey green and Yellow Pear, and the purple/dark varieties. I know Brandywine can grow some huge tomatoes. It's good to give gifts of a big bunch of crazy coloured toms because you only get red ones in the shops. Plus I grew some cherry ones so the kids can eat them off the vine.
