I'm so envious! When I had snake elapids where my main interest, but the ones from Australia was impossible to obtain legally - and the illegal ones where way to expensive... I kept mainly Najas and I guess those are hard or impossible for you to get?

MrArboc, for a start, hi. Did you have trouble with your reptiles in the cold north? or did it just add to the power bill already boosted from the grow lights?

love the avatar pic by the way, creepy and funny at the same time lol

Najas? Yeah? I've heard that they are reasonably easy to deal with and can be a little forgiving, but Sweet Jesus, I wouldn't want to rub one up the wrong way!! ;)

Yeah we can't have any imported reptile (unless youre a zoo or research etc). We still get smuggled pythons (mainly boas) and get King/Milk snakes from the US....
Sorry to butt in on your thread Grimus!

The houses here are well insulated, so the only problem I had compared to keepers in warmer climates where in fact the power bill... Good thing they bred like crazy - I actuelly made a profit most years:)

Yes, they are easy to work with compared to the aussie elapids, and compared to the mambas and king cobras I worked with but never kept for myself. Not easy compared to rattlesnakes and other pitvipers and vipers. I only got bitten once (by a Naja mossambica), and that was a SFE - Stupid Feeding Error... I tell ya; I have never been so afraid in my life! That was 12 years ago and I have now accepted that I'll never get full feeling back in that finger;)

Have you had any problems with kidney or liver etc? Sometimes these things take years to become a problem. An associate in Melbourne was rushing to clean enclosures one evening (2008) and was tagged by one of his Adders....within 15mins was in a really bad way. This is also a highly experienced keeper too!! He doesn't keep any pythons, just colubrids and elapids.

This is something I found on google - he sound flippant, but thats just his way.

edit: When I say flippant, he was getting pissed at the media attention (and the piss-taking we did ;) )
