I live in Wellington, New Zealand, a cold windy place that makes it challenging to grow Chilli peppers, but I really enjoy it.
We are approaching Spring here so I have started preparing, building a greenhouse, Seed propagator is ready to go.
Last year I grew many varieties and had a lot of fun making sauces and drying chills with many varieties including,Trinidad Scorpions, Yellow 7 Pot, 7 Pot Jonah Strain, Black Naga's and about 15 other varieties.
I tried to keep my pants growing over winter with a grow room and heat lamp, but the cost of running the lights soon put me off, so I look to start again fresh this year except for about 20 young plants I was able to keep growing inside over winter, including Bhut Jolokias and Carolina Reapers, so hopefully as Spring hits and they get some more sun and warmth they will take off nice and early (fingers crossed)
My claim to fame was coming in the top 6 in the last New Zealand Chilli eating competition , making it through 10 of the 15 rounds, which was better than I thought I would do
I hope this year to grow more of the hotter varieties and less types so I have more for homemade sauces.
I look forward to being part of these forums.
Regards
