pod Help I.D. - Supposed t be Lemon Drop

This is supposed to be a Lemon Drop Pepper. The first couple peppers early in the season were yellow (and quickly eaten by grasshoppers and/or tomato worms.) The plant has just started putting out peppers now that the weather has changed, but they don't look like Lemon Drop. Any idea what they are? They are about two to 2-1/2 inches long.

its a cross i can tell you that much, it looks like its at least half lemon drop from the shape of the pods
but maybe not Griff87 could be right on the black color being sunburn, but i cant remember for the life of me ever seeing a lemon drop turn that dark before??

Looks very similar to my aji lemon which I believe is the same as the lemon drop but I'm not totally sure. The size sounds about what I am getting with some smaller ones thrown in there and you did say that they turned yellow before. Mine never had the black though but yours might just be sunburn. Did it taste very citrusy almost like a lemon?

The intense sun here always tans my Aji Lemons good!

Majority of the time they turn nice and yellow no worries. Sometimes (in extreme cases) they might be left with a little bit of a stain...

I think it's safe to say you have a Lemon Drop there, Noobie, or at least one of the similar types.

Thanks. The tanning makes sense since they seem to be dark on the sun-side and green on the back side. I hadn't tried one yet since I wasn't sure they were ready. Will try one now. Good flavor, very little heat. They may still be too green. The taste is familiar but I can't identify it - wouldn't call it citrusy. Should they be moved out of the direct sun? (The plant is in a 5-gal bucket on my deck.)

The bucket has a raised bottom with notched soda cans and hardware cloth separating the dirt from the water, with a one inch air gap. I water through a hole in the bucket just below the dirt line, or a filler tube. There is a wick to get the water up to the plant. That has worked well for most of my peppers, with a few exceptions where the roots made their way to the bottom of the bucket. By the way, I tried another pepper today from near where I pick the first one, and it was very HOT. :P

The plant looks a lil off for a lemon drop too. Mine look different. I have some other plants that have that dark on them, but I contributed that to colder weather coming in. My entire garden is full sun and I didn't have that but on a few plants when the weather turned cooler. The pods look right, but a bit sparse. Plant looks like it needs a good feed, or its late in the season.

Lemon Drop, I already dismantled my plant as the cold is setting in, but mine had sunburn as well too on most of the pods. Plant was like 4ft tall and 3ft wide, gave me a ton of pods but half were green and purple as most didnt have time to ripen, awesome plant.

I harvested several of the purple/green peppers and some of them are turning yellow in the house. None on the plant are turning yellow yet. We have had a couple of low-30s nights and some of my plants took a hit, but seem to continue. I have three lemon drop plants. One is full of peppers, one is starting to get full, and the third has a few peppers and many blooms. Doubtful that I will get many now that the weather has changed. Seeing fewer grasshoppers, so I guess that is good. Any suggestions as to how to winterize them - they are in self-watering 5-gal buckets? Thanks.
