Help My Plants Are Ill!

I recently got some seeds and started some pepper plants(moruga scorpion, Ecuadorian Devil's Breath, devil's Tongue). I started in late July which obviously was not a good time to start, but I figured I would try to keep them alive inside over the winter since it really doesnt get that cold here (Louisiana) and I definitly keep it warm enough inside.

Disclaimer: I don't know jack about growing plants other than they need light, water, soil, and ferts and that too much of any can be worse than too little.

Anyway a few of my plants have what I would describe as leaf pucker. I believe, from what I have read, this may be due to a lack of calcium in the soil? I am going to pick up some bonemeal tomorrow and see if it helps. If you think it may be something different please tell me. Please see the below pictures.

The plant I am really worried about is one of my Devil's Tounge plants. It was doing great, had no leaf pucker, and was starting to flower and fruit with a nice number of buds. Then in like 3 days it has done a complete 180. Leaves are wilting and dropping like crazy, buds and flowers are dropping like crazy. It is so bad that wthing 3 days the plant I would say is at least 6 inches shorter and dropped over 50% of its buds. Also, new leaves growing are quite deformed. Please see the pics below.

Here is the other plant of the same kind that is still looking very healthy.

Any clue what this might could be and how I could stop it before it kills the plant totally?

Thanks for all your help,
Bartholomew P. Skibbenheims III

Have you fed the plants or used any other chemicals lately?

Seems strange for it to do a 180 so quick without any overdosing of something.

If you have flush out the pot, at least try it with the worst pot.

That is the thing that boggled my mind too. I have not done anything out of the ordinary with them whatso ever. Water them when the top inch of soil starts to seem dry and other than that ... that is it. I have not fed them with anything. Like I said I know next to nothing about growing plants; this is my first venture. I got some potting soil that was supposed to feed for 6 months so I have not added a thing. Granted I likely bought a potting soil that was far from ideal for this due to my ignorance, however I expect I would have seen issues from the beginning if the soil was just terrible or something.

my choc hab looks identicle to a few of your pictures, and from my research i de believe it to Broad mites(PITFA cant see them with out magnifined glass) not too scare you just what it "might" be. do a search for "leaf curl" and start reading. we are still trying to figure out what will kill them bastards!

It could be pepper mild mottle virus or could be herbicide damage Looks like either of those to. Are any of the fruit disformed? Has been any round up or other herbicides sprayed around them?

Yeah that has been something I have seen when I have googled the problem, but I have not found a site showing pics to compare so I dunno. Plus they are inside I wouldnt figure pests to be as big of a deal. But like I said I am very ignorant when it comes to all of this.

No herbicides have been used near them whatsoever. And the one that has taken the 180 degree turn is the only one with any fruit on it yet, but they are still tiny but dont look deformed.

The guy at the Hydro store I give seeds and BS with has the same with his, sometimes I think it's genetics. I have some with no pests look like that, but rebound a month later with no Ill effects. Hydro guy has it too, and he has everything known to man to fix it, but his still do it too.??? Good luck, check for pests thoroughly though.

Yes and may look like dirt or debris, don't be afraid to pic a suspected leaf and set on a plate to watch upside down. Chances are by morn it's dirt if there still there, a picked leaf will degrade quickly sending the bugs scurrying.

I had some pretty bad "puckering" on a few of my plants, also. I took the advice from some of the members here and added cal/mag. it seems to have worked wonderfully. Good luck.

Any specifics on the products you have used? I have read for calcium that bonemeal works but are there any preferred brands or mixes or anything?

I used Botanicare Cal-mag. This was in a DWC and also an ebb and flow setup. The specifics for soil are different. I'm a newbie also, so I'll let a more seasoned member give their input.

From what i found growing indoors requires very little watering, over watering causes nute lockout no matter how much ferts and crap you put in it wont help. Wait till your plants wilt and look like they are gonna die before you water them. Doesnt matter if the top couple inchs are dry. Try it bro and let me know, hope it helps.

i think they are mad at you for not allowing them to play outside
try moving a couple of those to the other side of the glass for
an hour or two and see if they will do better in the open air

i know i hate being cooped up

Well, I am back. Sorry I have been silent for so long. I am definitely appreciative of all the input you guys gave me.

I seem to have somewhat fixed my problem where my best plant was dropping leaves like crazy. I used a combination of a lot of the advice given. I am not sure what it was, but I worked a little potash as well as bone meal into my soils and setup more proper indoor lighting for them (rigged fluorescents all around my plants and a small 1500w HPS light above). The one plant that was dropping leaves and buds at a massive rate has pretty much stopped dropping now (but it is a shadow of its former self ... leggy and thin of leaves now) and they all seem to be growing again just slow. I am sure the light setup while helping is far from enough. I am working on building something better.

As seems to always be the case you clear up one thing only to have a new problem. I now have a whitefly infestation that occurred practically overnight it seems. Tiny little white specs that fly around when I disturb the plants and it seems like the population doubles every hour on the hour. I read up on them and read of a lot of possible solutions a few of the do it yourself ones I am going to give a shot. Going to make some bright yellow sticky traps to help out but I know this one stop the problem. One of the things I read on is mixing a small amount of non fragranced soap and a small amount of 70% alcohol with a large amount of water (those are scientific measurements I have going on there with the "small amounts") and misting your plants. Going to make this mixture and test it on a few leaves to make sure that it isn't damaging to the plant.

Something I read about that I will pursue if the above can't be used or will not work is neem oil some insecticides that work and also natural predators.

.:edit:.
One thing that is odd about my whitefly problem is I read that typically they congregate in mass under the leaves and whatnot but the undersides of my leaves are totally clear of anything its the tops they are on like crazy. Could I be misidentifying the insects or could it be something about the environment inside that causes them to get on top?
