Hi From The 'Burbs of Toronto

Hi folks. I'm a newbie hot pepper grower. I'm a newbie gardener, really, having only done a bit in a shady yard a few years ago and living in apartments at other times. My fiancee and I bought a home last winter and even though our yard is tiny, I love it and I'm happy with the veggies I'm growing.

I'm growing Cayennetta and Apache Yellow peppers in containers, and they're doing really well. Next year, I'd like to grow jalapenos, too.

I'm a late bloomer in the 'hot food' department, having been raised by a pair of wonderful but extremely boring parents, foodwise. White bread and potatoes. I never got into any ethnic food (and nothing remotely hot) until I was close to 30. I recall *extra mild* salsa back in the 90s, and that's what I started out with! LOL.

My userpic is the pile of Apaches I picked yesterday, and chopped and froze for use over the winter in chili or what not. I have a dehydrator and I guess I could have dried them, too. I used little wee ziplocks - the kind that are often used for crafts - and put those little bags inside a larger ziplock.

Anyway, I look forward to browsing the forum and getting ideas for my pepper-growing. :)

Hey there...welcome to THP ...my wife has family that lives in Ancaster which I think is just south of Toronto?...I go there every year to play in a golf tournament at Hamilton Country Club...

:welcome:  from sunny South Florida!  :woohoo:

Thanks for the welcomes! It's so interesting to have the experiences of people all over the world.

Sp33d, my dad lives just North of Hamilton, and I've been to Ancaster. Nice area.

Welcome from Colorado

Those cayennetta's are great container plants. Prolific plant as well. That's a good pepper to start with. Makes a great house plant.

Good luck with your grow.

Hi all. Thanks, Chuck - I was just looking into overwintering the plants indoors. That might be asking a lot in a Canadian winter, but we'll see. I won't be heartbroken if they don't survive - each seedling was two bucks, required very little care, and I already got my money's worth in peppers. :)
