I don't think it has anything to do with your tolerance level. Neil still gets them when he's testing the hots.

I haven't eaten enough of them whole to get the hiccups but I can get to sneezing when I'm grinding.

My friend used to get them and now that he built his tolerance he doesn't get them anymore.

If tolerance is the key then I guess your friends is higher than Neils.
