I know the title sounds like click bait or an exaggeration or an all out lie... but it seems to be true. In case you are still skeptical at the end, remember that I saw no real change in 18 months. And maybe my story can help someone else.
Story time!
In the beginning of 2015 I got a severe case on tonsillitis which lasted for two months and included two rounds of intensive drugs, several hospital visits, endless hours of pain, days of being unable to speak, and one night where I woke up realizing I couldn't breathe. My throat was never the same after that. Weak, sensitive, sore, and my old passion for singing became like a curse. Singing for just a few minutes could leave me regretting it for a solid week. I thought it might get better after a matter of months. Even when it didn't get better, it still didn't seem severe enough for a hospital visit. When fall and winter came again, cold weather made my throat much much worse. Busy with grad school, I didn't want to bother with it. After I graduated in December I decided I should see a doctor eventually.
Then... something strange happened... Out of nowhere I started to crave spicy food. I had never had the slightest interest in spicy food before. I was a mild food person. I couldn't even remember the last time I ate spicy food. And yet here I was... craving it like a drug addict that needed a fix. Nothing in town was spicy enough. A few months later in Spring I was on a trip in New Orleans and stocked up on hot sauce. I loved the sauces but was afraid to eat very much of it because of my throat. I would eat something spicy and feel it in my throat, so after I would think any soreness was due to the sauce. I started seeing a doctor in early Summer. I took medications that made me worse before making me better... for a little while. Then the effects melted away leaving my same sore throat behind. Hot tea didn't help. Cough drops didn't help. I was fed up with dealing with this day after day. No medication was going to fix this. I started thinking about my hot sauce cravings. Was it possible that my body was trying to tell me something? To fix itself? I read about all the health benefits that came with hot peppers. I decided I had nothing to lose and I was going all in.
For weeks I have been downing hot sauce multiple times per day with increasing intensity. I consider it a success if I feel the overwhelming heat in my throat, stomach, face, and tingles all over my body. Gotta love that runners high. After just a few days I knew it was working. And after weeks I'm still so happy. I feel great! My throat actually feels normal. I may not be capable of singing endless Whitney Houston songs or screaming at a metal concert, but life is good. I sing throughout the week and I'm not sore, in pain, or scared. All is well. I guess you could say I'm on fire.
