how many before you should say your fav. hot sauce.

I keep hearing or people asking whats your favorite hot sauce. for me theres too many sauces that are my favorite at that point in time, but to say " my all time favorite " is difficult to say if I havent tried every hot sauce made.

since trying every hot sauce made is kinda difficult though I'd think people should at least try over 100 or 200 hot sauces before they make a list of their favorite hot sauces.

I think anyone who states they have a favorite anything is merely giving in to peer pressure. Let's start with your favorite color.... who can forget the kindergarten teacher forcing them to somehow select ONE out of all the wondrous possibilities? Then there's you favorite number, your favorite food, your favorite game, your favorite whatever. It's all a treacherous conspiracy to make everyone conform to someone else's ideology - once the kindergarten teacher coerced a favorite color out of everyone, it just continued to snowball from there.... And just think, the very first person to insist everyone must choose a favorite anything probably isn't even alive today.... we have all been mind-washed through the centuries to remove our individuality and freedom to love variety for the sake of some dead guy whose only claim to existence at this point in time is microscopic dust we can't even see with our naked eyes.

i kinda have a favorite.... a simple onion-garlic-bhut jolokia sauce i make....
then again, i like a lot of food, but when i pick a favorite, i stick to it 'til i hate it.

There is another way to play this game.

Afterall this is only a decision making exercise.

Look at it this way...what if you had all of the hot sauces you have ever tried sitting in front of you.

Now what if you were told you would be going on two week trip and you could only choose one hot sauce to bring along with you.

If you can't decide you will be forced to leave them all behind.

If you choose one, you will have an unlimited supply of that sauce for your trip.

Now some of you might say, "But hey, I use different hot sauces in different applications".

Okay, fair enough, but you can still only choose one, so maybe choose the one that is most versatile, if you want to look at it that way.

The sauce you eventually end up choosing, will very likely be one of your favorites, if not THE one.

I have made alot of sauce over the years, good and bad, and now I have it perfected to my taste,so I also choose my own.
It also happens to be a simple onion garlic, super based!

I figure my favorite is my favorite now, until I find a better one. So it doesn't matter how many.

My current favorite is still El Yucateco XXXHot Mayan Recipe. I've liked a bunch after trying that one, but it's still the best.

thats funny

my point was if you've only tried a few sauces & say one of them is your favorite hot sauce is kinda jumping the gun. if you keep trying more sauces you might find some other sauces that you like even better. yes you'll even find some that are horrible tasting too.

Nah, I don't think it means you're jumping the gun, really. If you've only tried, say, 5 sauces then you can say "Out of the 5 I've tried, I like this one the best." Or, you can compare & contrast the 5 sauces in terms of peppers used, vinegar content, usage, etc. It's entertaining to look back @ what I thought my favorite sauces were when I had limited experience. For awhile I thought Dave's Insanity was awesome, lol. Now that I've tried around 30-ish sauces I have better standards of what constitutes my "favorite" sauce.

(It's Sriracha, btw.)

(But that doesn't mean I'd say no to some Fatalii Fire or Defcon 1.)

I LOVE adding to my "favorite" list. It is always exciting to me when I can tell someone "I have a new favorite (fill in the blank)". My new favorite chile and sauce list has changed quite often, and I hope it stays that way for a long time. My new favorite sauce as of now is AJ's Trinidad Scorpion puree that I pulled out of the cabinet a few weeks ago and can't get enough.

BTW my new favorite current show on tv is Sons Of Guns.

My favorite is the stuff I made.
There are tastier sauces out there. I know this. I'd almost give a finger to get another bottle of chilliman's ghost pepper sauce. That stuff was incredible.
I just like the fact that I grew the peppers from seeds then made the sauce myself. It's mine.

Guys look better in a tuxedo, but most of us have a pair of jeans or an old pair of shoes that you'd have to fight us to give up. Sort of the same thing, I guess.

You can have a favorite after two. You like one better. That is the one you favor.

Try a third and it may change. No big deal. It's personal, so why would you care what someone's favorite is?

I'm guessing this is because you want to buy hot sauces based on opinions. Well then just ask how many they have tried. :)

true, but...
when people say this is my favorite hot sauce...if they only tried a small number of hot sauces, then could they truely say thats their favorite when they havent tried all sorts of hot sauces ? they might find sauces they like better.

or

when you see people posting threads here asking for the best/your favorite hot sauce(s). well if someone says these 3 are my favorite hot sauces, then maybe the OP asking the question might not even know that the person said " these 3.." might of only tried 10 different sauces.
could that be a great recommended sauce if they have tried limited sauces ?..... thats almost like you THP asking a newbie to chiles/hot sauce to be your reviewer for the THP forum, how good of a review would that be ?

I really dont care! its just that this subject was in my head when I posted this  but I've thought of this plenty of times when people say " their favorite "
I gave up on saying my favorite cuz it does change from trying more sauces, though theres a couple hot sauces that have become part of my favorites BUT most of these sauces were from trying more & more sauces.

I buy hot sauces just to try different sauces.

What's wrong with having a favorite?
You can have more than one as there are many different types of sauce and surely you can have a favorite from each catagory, favorite sauce in an evolving choice some favorites will change when you come across a better sauce and you'll have your steadfast favorites that will always be on your top 10 list.
And you can have your fav sauce maker how always puts out a good sauce.
I've gotta say the Cajohns sauce are always a good bet imo, and one that was defo always in my top 10 was chileman's naga snakebite (I've been poking mark and julian toi bring it back into production)
Another brand that always hits the spot is marie sharps
A favorite splash it on everything is Blair's salsa de la muerte, i love garlic taste.

I'd say that any sauce you buy more than once is a favorite.

Almost forgot as a tabascoesque sauce I'd go for frank's extra red hot I actually prefer this to tabasco.
