soil-media how much soil to fill a 5gal bucket?

A standard 5 gallon bucket is right at 14" deep and an average of 10.5" diameter...

formula for volume of a cylinder is pi r[sup]2[/sup] h

so 3.14159 X 5.25[sup]2[/sup] X 14 = 1212 plus change cubic inches

one cubic foot = 12 X 12 X 12 = 1728 cubic inches

so the answer is less than one bag...
 
I don't understand the math, but one bag is fine. I filled my 5 gallon bucket with soil from a 1 cubic foot bag of soil, and had plenty of soil left over.
