sun How to change 50% sunshade into 30%?

Ok, so I bought this 12 foot by 8 foot 50% vinyl shade with the intention to hang it up so that half the day my peppers aren't broiling in the AZ sun, and now I have read the suggestion that 30% shade increases yields. Can I just, I dunno, cut some holes in various places and assume that will work?

I would keep it at 50%.
 
From what I can read , we are in the same climate +/- . Hot , dry , fierce sun.
You will do well with 50% shade.

the meter shows ~29 RH%.    but if you would like to know my soil humidity level it will be in this range 32% - 58%.

Keep it. Big difference between 90 degrees and 110 degrees.

I think you're on to something here. The way I've got it set up is that one half of my planter is covered. Because the uncovered side is near a wall, I don't get full sun all day, but maybe from around 9am-12pm I do. The remainder of the day there is only the sun shade to cover them. There was a marked difference in the way my smaller plants were looking this afternoon. The larger ones I'm not sure yet.
