How to choose culling victims

Hey people,

How do you guys choose which seedlings to cull? It's obvious when one is growing weirdly or is damaged, but when they are all healthy I kinda pick them randomly.

Just wondering, what are your criteria for culling?

I usually go with the largest fastest growers. Which majority of the time tend to be the ones that sprout first. Not always though.

Just split them up, either get them pretty wet or really dry, and tease them apart. I did it at least a dozen times this year with no issues.
That's what I ended up doing. A few didn't make it though

Well that's a bummer.

I lost two bhuts this season before they even got true leaves. I waited too long to water once and a bunch of plants shriveled up, those two never recovered though and ended up dying. The others all recovered fine.

I usually start in trays and pick the nicest, least leggy seedlings. This is what was left after I was done, they're sitting by the window as back ups in case one of my other plants fail or die. I'll typically dump the trays once it's planting time and I don't have any where to put them.

I hate culling.. I get sentimental and transplant to another pot. This is why I have a ridiculous amount of plant pots...
Yeah. You put in the effort and time to raise them up it doesn’t seem right to cull one because it’s a runt.

It’s been like, 100 years since reading it in elementary school.
But spiders are cool and pigs taste good. [emoji16]
