How to make hot pepper popcorn with the Westbend Stir Crazy

So I picked up this Stir Crazy at a local Goodwill for 15.00. I think they are around 30.00 new. It was a salvage item, had never been used but there was a small piece of plastic broken off around the edge. For us that is a more of a feature anyway, makes it easier to wipe out.

In our tests, we've learned that cutting peppers in to smaller slices works better than larger chunks. This method is awesome because you can scale the heat and pepper flavor to any level you want. It's become popular enough at work that we've invested in a 50 lb bag of popcorn. When we run out of fresh pods we plan to experiment with adding pepper powder to the oil.

We are also looking at using pepper infused oil at some point too.

Don't forget to put the snap-on-cover over the vents before inverting onto table top.

Believe it or not... still have my Stir Crazy from the 80's.   Has a yellow Dome not clear.
Yep, we always seem to forget that. That's awesome you still have one from that long ago.

Yum...will have to give a small batch a try tonight and hopefully not fume the house.
Yeah, it really is a pepper bomb waiting to happen. I think good ventilation is key, or least cook it when no one else is home.

cool, I am a popcorn fanatic also but I dont have one of these.  I just use a nice stainless steel pan with lid..... I find the best method or secret to good popcorn is most people use to high a heat trying to cook the kernels too quickly.  I use a good sunflower oil and add just a little butter in there for extra flavor, When we have guests they always ask me to make popcorn so I guess I am doing something right.  lol

When I want spicy popcorn I just sprinkle hot pepper flakes in the oil infusing it first.... of course I am the only one who can eat it.  Evryone at my house are wimps when it comes to heat.

cheers and thx for sharing!

I'm going to try your method. That sounds really good. It's good to know the pepper flakes works well too, have been meaning to try with some powders.
