Howdy from Spanaway!

Another newbie to the forum. I am on my second year growing a slowly expanding vegetable garden in my back yard. I am going to try growing some sweet pepper and jalepeno this year from local nursery starts. I threw a 18Dx36Wx22H plywood hot box with a glass top together to protect my lonely two pepper plants out in the garden. So far they look happy, its been a unseasonally cool spring so far, highs in the high 40s to low 50s so they arn't growing very fast. I have enjoyed reading the threads in the growing section, lots of helpful info, makes me wish I had started something last Dec. or Jan!

Wow, thank you for the welcome!

I must admit I am no where near the chili head as some seem to portray them selves here. I do like spicy foods, Mexican restaurants and the like. But it is mostly limited to what you would consider lower heat stuff, like jalapeño slices on a hamburger, a salsa that gets the mouth good and warm but doesn't inflict pain and instant hiccups. I have played with some pretty good heat, mostly making salsas that were pretty dang hot just to see if my buddies were I used to work (dang recession!) would actually eat it. One batch of salsa I made had about a dozen store bought orange habs and about a teaspoon of some stuff called pure cap in about 2 1/2 cups of salsa. That was the first time I ever experienced the hiccups from heat. I did try nibbling on one of the store bought habs, great pepper flavor at first, kind of fruity, and was great till I nibbled far enough up the side and found the heat. I was driving down hwy 167 at 60mph at the time, nearly had to stop because of the difficulty seeing through all the tears. I do have some bottles of hot sauce, and one that I have never opened. A bottle of limited edition private reserve Dave's insanity sauce That I bought somewhere around 12 years ago.

Tolerance builds up;) If you eat chiles with almost every meal as many of us do pretty soon a habanero don't seem any hotter than a jalapeno does to Average Joe. Also, when you are used to the burn you get to enjoy all the different tastes of different chiles - the sweating and runny nose is just an added bonus;)

But yeah, there are some people who seem to be after the pain more than anything else.

Welcom to the forum!
